Blade Cylinder - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure
At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil is hot and under pressure.
Hot oils can cause burns.
To prevent possible personal injury, release the pressure in the work
tool hydraulic circuit (boom, stick, bucket, and swing), travel circuits,
and the hydraulic oil tank at the filler cap before any hydraulic lines or
components are disconnected or removed.
Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped and the filler cap
is cool enough to touch.
Cylinders equipped with lock valves can remain pressurized for very
long periods of time, even with the hoses removed.
Failure to relieve pressure before removing a lock valve or
disassembling a cylinder can result in personal injury or death.
Ensure all pressure is relieved before removing a lock valve or
disassembling a cylinder.

NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool
Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on
Cat®
products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Put identification marks on all hoses. Plug all hose assemblies. This action helps to prevent
fluid loss, and this action also helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.
1. Rotate the machine in order to expose the blade cylinder.
2. Release the hydraulic system pressure. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "System Pressure
- Release".

3. Remove bolts (1). Remove cover (2).

4. Disconnect hose assemblies (3).
5. Attach a suitable lifting device to blade cylinder (6). The weight of blade cylinder (6) is
approximately 69 kg (152 lb).
6. Remove retaining bolt (4) and (8). Remove pin assemblies (5) and (7).
7. Remove blade cylinder (6).

Cylinders equipped with lock valves can remain pressurized for very
long periods of time, even with the hoses removed.
Failure to relieve pressure before removing a lock valve or
disassembling a cylinder can result in personal injury or death.
Ensure all pressure is relieved before removing a lock valve or
disassembling a cylinder.
(1) Tighten elbow adapter to a torque of 9.32 ± 4.9 N·m (82 ± 43 lb in).
(2) Pin bores to be lubricated and free of paint.
(3) Pin bores to be lubricated and free of paint.
(4) Lubricated the threads lightly with oil prior to tightening. Tighten the head to a torque of
1020 ± 100 N·m (752 ± 74 lb ft).
(5) Tighten nut so a torque of 5550 N·m (4094 lb ft).
(6) Tighten screw to 60 ± 11 N·m (44 ± 8 lb ft).
(7) Prior to assembly apply Tooling (A) to the wiper seal groove.

(8) Lubricate the sealing lip lightly with the lubricant that is being seals.
Installation Procedure

Note: Check the condition of the seals and the bearings. If the seals or bearings are worn or damaged,
use new parts for replacement.
1. Attach a suitable lifting device to blade cylinder (6). The weight of blade cylinder (6) is
approximately 69 kg (152 lb).
2. Position blade cylinder (6) onto the chassis and the blade.
3. Prior to installing pin assemblies (5) and (7), check that the bore is free of paint and grease.
Install pin assemblies (5) and (7).
4. Install retaining bolts (4) and (8). Tighten retaining bolts (4) and (8) to a torque of 70 ± 15 N·m
(52 ± 11 lb ft). Remove the suitable lifting device.

5. Connect hose assemblies (3).
6. Position cover (2) and install bolts (1).

Start By:

a. Remove the blade cylinder. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Blade Cylinder - Remove".
1. Release the hydraulic system pressure. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "System Pressure
- Release".
2. Reinstall pin (1) and hand tighten the bolt.
3. Attach a suitable lifting device and Tooling (A) in order to support blade (2). The weight of
blade (2) is approximately 263 kg (580 lb).

4. Remove retaining bolt (3) and nuts (5). Remove pin (4). Repeat for the other side.
5. Use Tooling (A) and the suitable lifting device in order to remove blade (2).
6. Remove seals (6). Use Tooling (B) in order to remove bearings (7).

1. Lower the temperature of bearings (7). Use Tooling (C) in order to install bearings (7) and
seals (6).

2. Attach a suitable lifting device and Tooling (A) in order to position blade (2) onto the chassis.
The weight of blade (2) is approximately 263 kg (580 lb).
3. Apply Tooling (D) to pin (4). Install pin (4). Install retaining bolt (3) and nuts (5). Repeat for
the other side.
4. Use the following procedure in order to tighten all the nuts:
a. Position the outside nut even with the end of the retaining bolt or 0.5 mm (0.02 inch)
beyond the end of the retaining bolt.
b. Tighten the inside nut against the outside nut to a torque of 70 ± 15 N·m (50 ± 10 lb ft).
5. Remove Tooling (A) and the suitable lifting device.

6. Remove the bolt and pin (1) in order to install the blade cylinder.
End By:
a. Install the blade cylinder. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Blade Cylinder - Install".

Bucket - Remove

Removal Procedure
NOTICE
To facilitate removal of the bucket pins without causing damage to the
pins, the bearings, and/or the O-ring seals put the bucket on the floor
and the stick in a vertical position, as shown.
1. Position the bucket, the stick and the bucket control linkage on the ground.
Note: Relieve the pressure on the bucket pins by moving the stick up and down.

2. Remove the nuts and retaining bolt (5) and remove bucket pin (4).
3. Pull link assembly (1) away from the bucket. Remove two O-ring seals (3).
4. Remove the nuts and retaining bolt (2).
5. Remove nuts (6) and retaining bolt (7).
6. Remove pin (8) and the O-ring seals. Separate the stick from bucket (9).
Note: The weight of the bucket (9 ) is approximately 240 kg (530 lb).

Note: Make sure that the stick pin bore, the bucket pin bores, the bucket pins, the flange and the O
-ring seals are thoroughly clean prior to installation of the bucket.
Note: Check the condition of the O-ring seals. If the O-ring seals are worn or damaged, use new
parts for replacement.
Note: The weight of the bucket (9 ) is approximately 240 kg (530 lb).

1. Lower the stick into bucket (9) and align the pin bores. Move the bucket until one side of
the bucket makes contact with the stick. Measure the clearance between the bucket and the
stick.
2. Apply Tooling (A) on bucket pin (8). Install bucket pin (8) and the O-ring seals. Align the
retaining bolt hole in the bucket pin with the retaining bolt hole in the bucket. Install
retaining bolt (7) and nuts (6).
3. Align the pin bore in link assembly (1) with the pin bores in the bucket.
4. Apply Tooling (A) on bucket pin (4). Install bucket pin (4) and O-ring seals (3).
5. Align the retaining bolt hole in the bucket pin with the retaining bolt hole in the bucket.
Install retaining bolt (5) and the nuts.
6. Use the following procedure in order to tighten all the nuts:

a. Position the outside nut even with the end of the retaining bolt or 0.5 mm (0.02 inch)
beyond the end of the retaining bolt.
b. Tighten the inside nut against the outside nut to a torque of 70 ± 15 N·m
(50 ± 10 lb ft).
7. Lubricate the bucket control linkage. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual,
SEBU7421, "Bucket Linkage - Lubricate" for the correct procedure.
