About Voices of Youth in Chicago
Education (VOYCE)
VOYCE is a youth organizing collaborative for education and racial
justice led by students of color from across the city of Chicago.
Some of VOYCE’s key accomplishments include:
●Won a re-write to the CPS Student Code of Conduct ending
automatic 10-day suspensions, cutting the maximum suspension
time in half, and ending arrests for disorderly conduct.
●Led statewide efforts to win a landmark policy change to
address the overuse of exclusionary discipline by expanding data
transparency across all publicly funded schools in Illinois, and
requiring districts in the top 20% of exclusionary discipline and/or
racial disparities to submit improvement plans.
●VOYCE, alongside Alternatives, Inc. and the Chicago Teachers’
Union (CTU) Quest Center, formed the Safe Schools Consortium
(SSC), a collaborative focused on implementing and expanding
restorative justice practices in Chicago Public Schools.

their parent-led research and demands for better nutrition,
increased food access, and more physical activity for all
students within the Denver Public Schools
