This document discusses the purpose and goals of human services. It provides two definitions: 1) The purpose is to position human welfare and rights as a primary responsibility, acknowledging the balance between humanity and environment, and celebrating diversity. Practitioners are responsible for addressing oppression and responding to human need. 2) The social work profession promotes social change, problem solving, empowerment, and liberation to enhance well-being. It intervenes where people interact with their environments, using theories of human behavior and social systems. Principles of human rights and social justice are fundamental.
