This document describes several simple machines and compound machines. It provides examples of each type of machine and where they are typically located. Simple machines discussed include wedges, wheels and axles, levers, inclined planes, screws, and pulleys. Compound machines described are scissors and a bottle opener, which are made up of combinations of simpler machines like wedges and levers. For each machine, a brief explanation of its function and common examples are given.
2. Wedges Razor Blade Kitchen Knifes Located- In my garage. My dad uses it to cut boxes. It’s a wedge because it cuts through things. Located- Kitchen Kitchen Knifes are used to cut food into smaller pieces. It is a wedge because it splits to things apart
3. Wheel and Axle Bike Located in Garage Used to make the BMX mike ride around, without the wheel there would be no point to have a bike. The bar makes the wheel spin around to get to your destination. Wheel of my Skateboard Located in room Used to make skateboard roll. Without the wheel and axle the skateboard wouldn’t be able to roll. The wheel rotates around the axle and is connected by a bolt, so it doesn’t fall off.
4. Lever Thongs Located- In silverware cabinet/ In kitchen Used for picking up ice and sugar cubes. It makes weight lifting easier and more safer because ice can be cold and sugar cubes can make your hands dirty. Screw Driver Located- In garage/ Toolbox Used for turning screws by making them tighter or looser, so they can stick to objects. It makes it easier to turn the screws in rather then doing it by hand.
5. Inclined Plane Stairs Located- Hallway Used for walking up to the next level of the house. Sink Located- Bathroom The sides of the bathtub is higher than the drain. This helps all the water to run down the drain after a bath.
6. Screw Screw Located- Garage/Tool box It turns rotation to connect two piece together. It takes many twists to go a short distance. Jar Lid Located- Kitchen counter The screwy part on the sides of the bottle makes the lid stick on.
7. Pulley Curtains Located- Bedroom When you pull down on the string the curtains go up and when you pull it to the side the curtains go down. Just like a flagpole Fan Chain Located- Ceiling of Bedroom When you pull the chain down it tarts the fan, and when you pull it down it stops it. It makes it easier to reach.
8. Compound Machines Scissors Located- My drawer Machines that make it up- Wedge, Lever The sharp ends are used for cutting paper will the beginning is used to control how much to cut and when and where you want to cut. Bottle Opener Located- Silverware drawer Machines that make it up- Lever, screw The End part the sharp screw is used to pop the bottle lid out, the sides are used to hold it in place
