Origin:
Simply put, contemporary art is the art of today. It can be anything, from a painting or sculpture to
photography or performance. As long as it was created in the current era, it can be any type of art.
Contemporary Art is not limited to any particular medium or apparatus. It has been differently interpreted
in different places and times. The origins of this art form are believed to be in the 1960s, after the end of
modernism.
Characteristics:
Contemporary art has one distinctive feature. It is defined by an artist's ability and willingness to invent
new masterpieces. These are some of the technical characteristics.
Innovation in Art
Modern artists are the pioneers of introducing new forms of art to this world. To create new types of art,
different art forms were combined or used newer ideas.
The example of collage art, which is a form of innovation, has been a wonderful example of contemporary
modern art. Mixing new ideas can lead to mixed forms of assemblage, kinetic art in different formats,
animations, and land art.
Using New Materials:
Modern art also relied on the use of various objects. These materials were often unusable to the average
man, but are now a great resource for modern artists. One example is how painters used newspaper
pieces as backdrops to create masterpieces of modern art. It was the first to use a newspaper as a
backdrop for a painting. In the same way, junk was used by sculptors to create what is now called junk
art. You can also use common objects like boxes, cars, and chairs to create amazing assemblages.
Colors:
3/3
Color was traditionally used to create reality in paintings and other art. Modern artists have experimented
with color and created new themes and textures using it in their art.
Expressionists were primarily influenced by the expressive and vibrant use of color as a tool for
innovating their paintings.
Newer Techniques:
Modern art is more than just about playing with colors and objects. It has also led to the development of
new techniques that are now used in contemporary art. Jules Cheret is the inventor of
Chromolithography. Surreal artists brought automatic drawing into the art world. Frottage and
Decalcomania are two other vital techniques that have been developed over time and are used to create
contemporary art.
Abstract Expressionism, Tachisme and Pop Art, Op Art, and Minimalism, are just a few of the art
movements that have changed from what was known.
Contemporary Art is today the most sought-after form of art. It is displayed and loved by art connoisseurs
around the globe.
