What Does PSM
Failure Message In
A Porsche Mean?
Ways to Get Over it
Got a “PSM failure”
message on the dash of
your Porsche?
Well, it can appear for
any number of
reasons… and doesn’t
always mean trouble.
You may get a "PSM
failure" message soon
after a battery
replacement.
The message usually
goes away on its own.
However, if the message
doesn’t disappear… it is a
thing to be concerned
about.
Below we have
highlighted some of
the reasons why the
"PSM failure" message
may appear on the
dash of your Porsche.
But, before going any
further, let’s discuss what
PSM is and what it does.
PSM- Why Does Your Porsche Need It?
PSM stands for
Porsche Stability
Management system.
It does what its name
implies…. It simply
stabilizes your Porsche.
It ensures that your
Porsche is not slipping
sideways when taking
a sudden turn.
It also prevents your
vehicle from losing
traction when driving on a
slippery road.
And, if it malfunctions,
a "PSM failure"
message will appear.
What Causes "PSM failure" Message To
Appear?
ABS is not working
To keep the vehicle stable,
PSM takes the help of anti-
lock braking system.
So, obviously, if the
ABS stops working, the
message “PSM failure”
will appear soon.
Throttle position sensor or TPS is faulty
To keep your car stable,
PSM regulates the engine
operation.
And, to do so, it takes
the help of the TPS.
TPS failure will interfere
with the PSM's ability to
perform its job - leading to
a "PSM failure" message.
Battery is dying
The battery, if dying,
can cause all sorts of
drivability problems.
And, yes… it may prompt
your Porsche to display a
"PSM failure" message.
MAF sensor is defective
This may sound a bit
unusual, but a faulty
MAF sensor can cause
a "PSM failure"
message to appear.
So, How Can You Get Rid Of This
Message?
The answer is
simple…
Just find out and fix the
culprit, the light will go
away on its own.
Final Thoughts
The appearance of a "PSM
failure" message is a big
threat to your safety.
That’s why the reason
behind the
appearance of this
message must be
identified and
repaired.
