David Hunt is a languages and business consultant in Panama City, Panama and sits on the board of a company that brokers bulk water internationally. He has a background in political science and education, including postgraduate studies in Latin American history and politics. During a 31-year career in the US Air Force, he held positions including Air and Defense Attaché in Venezuela and Bolivia and a senior advisor role at the State Department. After leaving the Air Force, he worked as Executive Director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Panama for nearly a decade, growing its membership. Currently he also sits on the board of the American Society of Panama.

David Hunt is a languages and business consultant in Panama City,
Panama, and a member of the Board of Directors of Global Waters de
Panamá, S.A., a company which, with its wholly owned subsidiary,
Waterfund S.A., brokers bulk water to the global marketplace.
Born in Dallas, Texas, USA, he grew up in Caracas, Venezuela. He
received his Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from Duke University
and a Master's in Education from Pepperdine University. He also did
postgraduate studies in Latin American History and Politics at the
Monterey Institute of International Studies and the Naval Postgraduate
School in Monterey, California.
During a 31-year career in the United States Air Force, he held positions
as Air Attaché to the American Embassy in Caracas, Venezuela; Defense
Attaché at the US Embassy in La Paz, Bolivia; and senior military
advisor at the State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and
Law Enforcement Affairs in Washington. He arrived in Panama in 1996,
as the last Director of the US Southern Command’s Office of Panama
Canal Treaty Implementation.
After leaving the Air Force, David worked as the Executive Director of
the American Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Panama from 2001
to 2010. During that time, the Chamber grew from 284 to 435 member
businesses, comprising over 75% of the US businesses in Panama and
more than 80% of the US Direct Foreign Investment in the country.
David is also on the Board of Directors of the American Society of
Panama, a non-profit, charitable, international organization in Panama.
He was previously on the Board from 1998 to 2002, and was Vice
President in 2000-2001.
He is married to Melinda Mallahan Hunt, who teaches high school
English, Spanish and French at Balboa Academy in Clayton. They have
four children and three grandchildren living in the US.
