Avo Kua was born and
raised in
Ossu, Viqueque. He is a
son of Avo Esperansa
with 14 brothers and
sisters.

Avo Kua then married
Avo Mae (Berta) and
they both moved to
Colmera, Dili. They
had 5 children- 4 girls
and 1 boy.

Avo Mae passed
away 8 years ago on
Mothers Day- 9 May

                           Avo Mae now
                           have 25
                           grandchildren
                           and 5 great
                           grandchildren.
When Avo
                                                   Mae and Avo
                                                   Kua had their
                                                   5
                                                   children, they
                                                   had taken
                                                   care of many
                                                   other kids and
                                                   called them as
                                                   their own.
                                                   They were
Avo Pae, Avo Kua ho Avo Abagata – June 20, 1992.

  They were strict parents. The children had to
  go school, study hard and had to be home by
  their curfew... Otherwise, they all were belted.
Avo Kua always recaptured his childhood that were
never ending. He sat around at parties sharing his
stories to almost everyone..

Then a few years after the loss of Avo
Mae, Avo Kua suffered from Alzheimer
(memory loss).

Every afternoon, Avo Kua walked everywhere around
Dili. Due to his condition of Alzheimer, he’d forget his
way back home. So, sometimes taxi drivers started to

lose one of his sandals without noticing. Until he
reached home, he only had one sandal on...

Last year when our family went to Timor, we
visited Avo Mae‟s grave. Xodi climbed up onto her
grave and Avo Kua was quite upset.
Not only that, but Avo Kua hardly let
anyone touch her grave.

He enjoyed going to family picnics, but only
after an hour, Avo Kua wanted to go back

Avo Kua had his own set times to eat. If the
food was not prepared on time, then Avo
Kua would not want to eat it.
He loved his grandchildren and great-
grandchildren. He tickled and had

       One of Avo Kua‟s fear was going on planes. He
       was extremely scared about flying, but due to his
