De Blauwe Hollander (The Blue Dutchman) has opened her doors on April 1st 1979. The name “Blauwe” refers to the blue uniforms worn by the Dutch marines who were sent to Indonesia and Suriname to remain as permanent representative of the Netherlands. Interestingly enough, Dutch cuisine got more appreciated by the men above the sea, because it made them nostalgic and tempered their desire for the Netherlands.
