2. What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product and
why?
• I have designed a new magazine which will be
completely different to anything else in my
market also the genre my magazine is aimed at is
poorly represented in the market therefore my
magazine has the chance to become market
leader, gaining high profits. Therefore the
distribution for my magazine will have to be at
the optimum level reaching as many people as it
can, the main distributers I have been looking at
are Bauer and IPC Media.
3. Bauer
• Bauer currently distribute over 300 magazines in 15
different countries, as well as online, TV and radio. Bauer
work with big magazine brands such as Kerrang!, Q and
MOJO which are all big music magazines and could be
considered my rivals.
• Choosing Bauer as my distributer means I am going with an
experienced distributer who knows how to sell my
magazine to my target audience, they have helped big
brands such as Kerrang and Q gain their status, hopefully
they will be able to do the same for my magazine.
• Another reason to choose Bauer as the distributer for my
magazine is they distribute online, this is key as my target
audience uses the internet more than any other age group
allowing this to be a key way of distributing to them.
4. IPC Media
• IPC distributes 60 brands of media in the UK this
therefore means they will be able to distribute to my
UK audience, they have good knowledge and
experience with my target audience as they distribute
for NME which is one of the most popular magazines in
the UK, this could allow them to make my magazine
reach the same status as NME.
• Unlike Bauer, IPC Media do not have a wide range of
media platforms, therefore my magazine would not be
distributed to as many people in my target market thus
causing my magazine not to do well.
5. Conclusion
• In conclusion for my magazine I have chosen Bauer to
distribute my magazine because they already distribute
with some of the most popular music magazine and
300 other types of media, showing they have lots of
experience which can allow my product to sell lots,
they have good experience with my target audience
distributing music magazines of a similar genre
therefore know how to distribute my product
effectively.
• The main reason I didn’t choose IPC Media is they
don’t sell lots of music magazines as they mainly
specialise in sports therefore they would not be as
effective as Bauer.
