About
Dame Shirley Porter was Born in the United Kingdom to Sarah and Jack Cohen in 1930. Besides welcoming a daughter into the world during those years, Mr Cohen also opened the first branches of what was destined to be the giant retail chain Tesco. The Cohen family were successful with their business ventures and became involved with philanthropic projects in the UK and in Israel.
Growing up, Shirley Cohen spent a year at La Ramée finishing school in Switzerland before continuing her education at St. Godric's Secretarial and Language School after returning to the UK. In 1949 Ms Cohen became Dame Shirley Porter when she married a textile merchant named Leslie Porter.
