4. Cooperativa Shannara
SHANNARA is a non profit organization born in 1996
as Utopia Ilaria.
As territorial association ,we turn in the assistance &
protection of young people. SHANNARA since 1996
handles two residential communities which
accomodate young girls & young men, with different
ethnicity ,average age between 12/21 years ,
assigned by the order of the Italian Judge Court.
In the most of cases, these girls & boys are moved
from their families because of different and various
measures, mainly because of family/environment
discomforts, abused, learning abilities, poorness etc.
5. Against smuggling & human trafficking
Then Shannara take care about the young people who come
in Italy trough illegal channel of human trafficking from
East Europe & Africa.
We follow this young to recapture rights & dignity through
educational & psycological training.
6. SHANNARA develops a cultural promotion, on his own and in
cooperation with local (private and public) organizations &
international ones through projects, studied to compare and
to face: ideas, thoughts , suggestions, advice. We deal with
the topic of cultural diversity, norms and values, culture,
discrimination, prejudice, inclusion/exclusion by the help of
outdoor games ( ludobus ), art street workshops, theatre &
music seminars.
All these actions are acted to reflect critically about personal
and cultural identity, to gain a greater understanding of
cultural diversity in different local and national realities & to
better understand concepts which relate to the themes of
cultural diversity, such as stereotypes, prejudice, culture etc.
Girls & boys from Shannara’ s organization, students from
domestic schools, educators , leaders & youth workers are
all involved in these projects.
The focus is based on the expressive forms like: social
outdoor/ indoor games, music, dance, painting, graphic arts,
photography, the so called “ non-formal education “ .

but in having new eyes”
8. The executive staff is formed from educators & voluntaries
from 22 to 45,each one with specific professional qualifications.
The older management team (the legal members ) monitor
them through seminars & meetings with specialists like
psychologists & sociologists.
The latter follow young & team up on the way. In the
professional team ,we have layers, doctors, social workers &
different kind of non – formal educators who gave their
contribution to the community in many cases as voluntaries.

15. ARCIRAGAZZI
Shannara is also the headquarter for ARCIRAGAZZI PORTICI since
1994.
This is a nation-wide educational association founded in 1991.It
aims at enhaching the value of childhood. It works for full
realization of the United Nations Convention for Childhood Rights.
Arciragazzi considers playing a powerful tool of civic and cultural
growth,and promotes direct partecipation of children and young
people in developing and managing projects, activities and
debates with authorities, schools and with Italian and European
institutions. Arciragazzi mainly runs a youth centre for children
and teenagers, located in the city suburbs, and offers school
support ,ludic and artistical laboratories and a place for discussing
youth- related problems. Our main target are children and
teenagers ( age 6-18 ) with family and personality problems,
school exclusion and social emargination. Arciragazzi Portici also
manages projects with schools and city institutions.
16. Arciragazzi is a member of “Italian Observatory of
childhood and Adolescence” founder member of
FIEEA ( Federation International pour les Echanges
Educatifs d’Enfants et Adolescentes, Paris )
Arciragazzi is also member of “Arci Servizio Civile”,
an Italian national association that promotes and
manages National Civic Service, encouraging Italian
young people in spending a year in cultural,social &
enviromental projects with non- profit organizations
and public administrations, in Italy and abroad.
25. UTOPIA ELODIA
Woman Assistance Center
Violence against woman:
This is the most popular human rights violation.
First aid center for those women who need to go away from their own house
& without any chance to have immediatly a new one.
Mainly activity:
listening, psychological help, legal advice, medical check & assistance.
Prevention :
monitoring training, documentation, research, training course, information.
26. Since January 2011, Shannara has been
accredited by the Food Bank for the withdrawal &
distribution of the food to needy people in the
territory of Portici.
An important goal for those people who lives in a
fragile conditions, especially children. The
agreement promotes activities designed to
protect minors, to develop a culture of respect for
children's rights and more.
