CloudHealth™ Pulse - Daily Cost Summary
Subscribe to one of the CloudHealth™ Pulse Reports, like Cost Summary, for a high level overview
of your cloud environment and changes that occur. This report can be scheduled daily, weekly, or
monthly by user-defined, group perspectives for management teams including: engineering, operations,
finance, product line managers and executive teams.
The Daily Cost Summary report provides click through access from the Cost Allocation report to the
CloudHealth Platform for additional data analyses and InterActive reporting.

Drill into detailed data behind your CloudHealth Pulse - Cost Summary Report for on-demand access
to services like Cost Allocation analysis. Using the robust InterActive reporting functionality you can
easily change your Cost Allocation dimensions and better evaluate costs associated with specific
groups on an hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly basis.
Below you have a weekly cost history breakdown by product line owners. This trended report indi-
cates a substantial increase in cost associated with a subset of the product line owners.

Cost Allocation Filters and Group Drill Down
Filter on mulitple dimensions at once for an even more detailed analysis. In the first report two Product
Line Owners from the GroupSet Owner have been selected, as well as a Category that includes AWS
Service Items and their associated costs.
In the second report, another dimension, Environment - Production and Staging, is added to gain a
deeper understanding of where resources are being used, what those resources are, and their asso-
ciated costs.

Instance Type Usage and Cost Analysis
Analyze specific AWS Service Items, like EC2 Instance Types once you have a thorough understanding
of your cloud costs and how they are allocated across your environment.
You may choose to evaluate Instance Types by multiple GroupSet dimenisons like Product Line Owners
in Production and Staging. The first report shows the # of Instances by Instance Type and the second
report shows Cost by Instance Types.

Instance Performance and Utilization Analysis
Evaluate performance and utilization of your cloud infrastructure, in addition to cost analysis and
usage review.
The first report illustrates the Min/Max/Ave CPU Utilization for a specific Instance Type used by
Product Line Owners in Production.
By adding Memory, integrated in the CloudHealth Platform from multiple data sources, our second
report shows us that the Instance Type reviewed in this environment is fully utilized. This level of
detail is critical for planning purposes when developing an RI purchase model to ensure unncessary
infrastructure is not purchased.

RI Usage Review
Create a historical, trended analysis by Reservation Types for Instance usage across the environment
to see if there are opportunities for cost optimization (illustrated below in the first report).
In some cases you may want to evaluate RI usage based on a GroupSet perspective. The second
report shows Product Line Owners with the largest increase in trended cost have almost no RI’s in their
Production and Staging environments.

RI Models and Quotes
Evaluate opportunities for cost optimization by purchasing additional RI’s using the detailed information
for your environment.
The RI Usage report allows you to review Instance Type usage versus current reservations for your
environment.
Next you can create a model based on a target Reservation Rate to determine if there are additional
savings and what the payback period for RI purchases would be.

RI Models and Quotes
Model your RI purchases using the CloudHealth RI service. You can create a proposal based on
usage and your desired reservation rate target, or individual selections you may choose.
As shown below the proposal illustrates recommended changes and the impact to both number of
reservations and cost. Here you can complete the Quote and create a “Buy Sheet,” or return to the
quote model to modify individual reservations, change reservation types, or change the reservation
target rate across your entire quote.
