TECHNICAL GUIDELINES FOR FACT SHEETS
1. Font: Times New Roman 12 point
2. Layout: Justified, 1.5 line-spacing
3. Headings: CAPS and Bold; secondary title in italics
Example:
HANSARD
A substantially verbatim report of parliamentary debates
4. Titles of Acts: In cursive for the title but not number and year.
Example:
Public Audit Act (Act 24 of 2004)
Title of Act in cursive only at first use, thereafter normal script
without number and year, viz. Public Audit Act or the Act.
5. Abbreviations: Need only be explained once in a write-up when it first
appears; thereafter the abbreviation is used.
6. Numbering: Bullets are preferred to numbers in the text
7. References: Please use references and parliamentary terminology in full

8. Audience: Remember that the target audience is the person on the street – do
not write for procedural experts. As far as possible try to keep the
content in plain language so that it is easy to read and understand.
9. Length: Keep the write-ups between 1000 – 1500 words
(no more than 2 x A4 pages).
