2. Context
Indonesia is a country that still have a discriminative
policies towards LGBTIQ (Lesbian Gay Bisexual
Transgender/Transsexual Intersex and Queer)
people, that target homosexuals and transgender
persons and categorizes them as prostitute and
threat the social order.
This affects a stigma to LGBTIQ as a bad citizen
who don’t deserve to get their rights and society
don’t accept them either. Based on a survey that
released in October 2012, stated that 80.6 percent of
1,200 people objected to having gays or lesbians as
neighbors. The figure has jumped significantly from
64.7 percent in 2005.
3. Context
This frame of thinking make LGBTIQ can’t access
the equal opportunities, including employment.
The formal work environment is not friendly with
their gender expression, so that it will be difficult
for tomboy-lesbian to get a job, compare to
feminine-lesbian. It is even more difficult to waria
(male-to-female transgender) to get into formal
work since most of them should leave home at
the age of 15-20 that make them only reach
school until junior high school.
4. The Solution
Bergerak Maju! becomes one of way to fight
against this situation. We believe that we can start
to promote an equal society through highlighting the
significant problems related to LGBTIQ and
employment so that public will aware that access
and opportunities should also considering people
with different sexual orientation and gender identity
– who have been neglected and stigmatized.
Bergerak Maju! becomes our spirit of optimism that
we have to always move forward to sensitizing
public about the inequality that occurs and to always
take a step forward to reach more and more people
so that they will be more open and contribute in our
initiative.
5. The Solution
Bergerak Maju! will be a crowd-funding platform for
Indonesia young LGBTIQ people age 18-30 years
old who want to start or develop their own social
entrepreneurship activities in groups that will provide
work opportunities among their peers.
A crowd-funding platform becomes the solution
because this method is not only to provide financial
solution for young LGBTIQ people social
entrepreneurship plans, but also as a campaign
strategy to gather public support and awareness
related to LGBTIQ and employment problem
6. The Solution
As an initial phase, Bergerak Maju! will conduct
assessment about LGBTIQ and employment
problem towards LGBTI groups in several cities in
Indonesia to get more significant data on different
context of problems related to employment.
Bergerak Maju! will engage with youth communities
and organizations, non-governmental organizations,
academic institutions and private sectors to ask
them to be part of our commitment by securing their
funds or their technical expertise related to social
entrepreneurship.
7. The Solution
In its crowd-funding campaign, Bergerak Maju! will
encourage young people to be the crowd-funders
and provide possibility for them to become
volunteer to support projects sustainability based on
the need. It will become a way to facilitate a peer
support mechanism in addressing this problems.
8. The Solution
Bergerak Maju! will also give technical assistance,
especially related to social project management and
community empowerment through workshop and
mentoring groups that will be conducted every six
months.
Bergerak Maju! will monitor the implementation of
social entrepreneurship activities by publishing
writings and videos of the process, also providing a
space (could be online or offline) to share the best
practices of sustaining their projects.
9. The Solution
In the first six months, we will focus on youth LGBTIQ
and employment assessment, engage with other
potential stakeholders who want to join our initiative, and
execute the web design & content management for
crowd funding platform
For the next six months, Bergerak Maju! will be launched
and the promotion started. During that time, we will
manage our first workshop.
After the first workshop organized, we will continue to
monitor the result every three months by giving updates
to public about the implementation of projects.
By every end of the year after the projects has been
implementing, we will invite the groups to share their best
10. Result and Outcomes
Through Bergerak Maju! we expect that we will
reach 200 young LGBTIQ people age 18-30 during
two years through the workshops and mentoring
groups and will engage 1,500 young people who will
be the crowd-funders.
