In this presentation we are going to quickly look at the learning technology tools available to you when you work at Westminster College.
First, I’d like to introduce the team of dedicated individuals who are here to help you succeed. On the left we have Kosta, he is our student employee. In the middle is Ben who is the Learning Technology Facilitator, and Nichole who is the Faculty Technology Center Manager. We are here to help you so please feel free to call us at 801-832-2015 , email us at ftc@westminstercollege.edu, or drop by the FTC located in the lower level of the Giovale Library.
Let’s look at several categories of technology, online, classroom based and software.
At Westminster we use the ANGEL Learning Management system but we are currently piloting Canvas and Blackboard and anticipate migrating to one of them in the Fall of 2013. We have a host of other tools including MediaSpace- a video hosting website similar to YouTube, a Wiki and Foliotek- our eportfolio tool.
All of our classrooms are equipped with a computer, projector and other multimedia tools. Some of our classrooms are set up to use Panopto to record presentations in the classroom.
In the Fall of 2011 Westminster began a mobile computing initiative stating that all students must have a laptop computer and be able to bring it to class. To help faculty and students who use both Windows and Mac computers we have a virtual desktop program called Westminster Anywhere that allows any computer to become a campus computer and provides access to all of our Westminster software. This is particularly nice when students need access to high-end software that the College has licensed and traditionally has only been available on campus computers.
