These are just a few of the
questions answered during
a recent day-long visit of 15
community leaders to the
CUMC campus.

2. The day’s presentations
and tour were part of
Project Medical
Education, a nationwide
program designed to
educate community
leaders, government
officials and others
about the day-to-day
activities of an academic
medical center.

3. The visitors saw each of
CUMC’s four schools: the
College of Physicians
Surgeons, the Mailman
School of Public Health, the
College of Dental Medicine
and the School of Nursing.
They also visited the Irving
Cancer Research Center and
the New York State
Psychiatric Institute.

4. Visitors were shown a
state-of-the-art classroom,
designed to reflect the way
modern medicine is
practiced.

5. Approximately thirty
faculty, staff and
students participated
in the day’s
presentations, which
included researchers
sharing their latest
findings and the
potential impact of
those findings on
patient care.

impressed by the breadth
of the research conducted
at the Medical Center.
“Amazing,” she said,
adding, “and as a public
health advocate, I gained a
better understanding of
the complex challenges
faced by medical centers in
