The document provides an overview of Nigeria's development before and during President Goodluck Jonathan's administration from 2010 to 2013. It lists key economic, infrastructure, and social indicators sector by sector, showing improvements across areas like GDP, agriculture, transportation, education, and healthcare. The purpose is to assess Jonathan's performance by comparing conditions before and after he assumed office using facts and figures laid out in a simple, easy to understand format.
4. Before and After: Jonathan 4 and hte Tarnsformaiotn of Nigeair
Introduction
How do you determine if a manager has delivered or not? It’s a fairly simple
answer: results. Judge him by the results. You cannot argue against results. If a
manager inherited a very challenging business, you have to judge him by the differences
he has made during his stewardship. Is the business better off today than he met it? Are
there enough facts on the ground to prove it?
This publication was produced with this basic fact in mind. When President Goodluck
Ebele Jonathan officially assumed office as President of Nigeria on May 6, 2010, he
inherited several challenges in every area of national life. The best way to judge him,
three and a half years after, is to look at the facts. In this season of fierce politicking, it is
easy for the facts to get lost on the altar of political intrigues.
In this booklet, the facts and figures are laid out in a very simple manner. It is called
BEFORE & AFTER for a purpose. BEFORE lists the conditions President Jonathan met
5. Before and After: Jonathan and the Transformation of Nigeria 5
on the ground when he came into office in 2010. AFTER lists the changes that have
occurred over the years following his assumption of office. They are placed side-by-side
for easy assessment of the transformation that has taken place.
The facts are laid bare sector by sector. What was Nigeria’s GDP before? What is it
now? What was the agricultural output before? What is it now? What was the state
of the airport before? What is it now? What was the budget for education before and
after? How many Nigerians have mobile phones and internet access today, compared to
before?
I will not say much but simply invite the reader to judge for themselves.
