Happy New Year!!! It is hard to believe that we are in the third month of the New Year.
To God be all glory and honor for all that he has done and continues to do on behalf of
DwD Inc. As I reflect back on 2010 I can truly say that the lord has been faithful and his
provision is everlasting.
2010 REFLECTION of Ministry Miracles:
March: DwD moved into Northgate Mall in Durham, North Carolina. This
was our 1st administrative office and definitely will not be our last. We called
Northgate home for approximately 5 months. The exposure helped us gain more
supporters. We were able to teach some of the parents of DwD some
administrative skills, as they volunteered as the receptionist. In addition, the
young ladies in our mentoring program were able to meet in the privacy of their
own place. The young ladies enjoyed having a place to come after school in
which they could call their very own. They enjoyed the new computers and
watched movies together.
June: DwD were vendors at the Annual Bimbe’ festival in downtown Durham,
North Carolina. We proudly sold water donated by supporters and enjoyed
sharing our mission to all those who purchased water and/or just stop by our
booth to find out more about DwD Inc. The proceeds from the sales went to treat
the young ladies to a pizza dinner and to purchase some much needed computers.
In addition, to the water fundraiser we had a yard sale and the girls
enthusiastically waved down cars. It was hot but we had a blast because we
believe in DwD.
July: In July DwD was featured in “The Triangle Tribune”, Sommer Brokaw
wrote an excellent article that spoke to the heart of our organization. As a result of
the article we met Karen Spigner who helped us connect with AmeriCorps and to
apply for several grants. In addition, Karen helped us attain some computers from
United Way. DwD told our story to United Way volunteers and was warmly
greeted and ask to return to help other organizations attain computers as well.
DwD began a collaboration with Mr. David K. Hasan, a business consultant who
has been influential in teaching the girls and women how to become
entrepreneurs.
August: DwD interviewed several volunteers who wanted to participate in
the Summer Soul Success program. Unfortunately, the program had to be
cancelled due to the relocation of the administrative offices.
October: As the CEO, I took time to work with each girl individually, along
with their parents. We had to adopt some parental involvement policies, along
with some safety precautions to assure the safety of our children and compliance
with state and federal laws. Lea Charles completed her 12 months as our first
2. mentee. Although she is no longer receiving one to one services, she remains
active in other DwD programs. Thanks to both Lea and her mother for trusting
DwD and allowing us to work with their family.
November/December: The year ended with no services/programs
provided due to lack of funding. Praise be to God that some faithful supporters
came through with some funding/gifts that were donated to the DwD girls/women
for Christmas!!! It was a miracle and the smiles on the girls faces were priceless.
Thanks to these donors!
Welcome to March!
Once again we will be participating in the 5k walk/run. March 26,2011 at 8:30 am

We will be assisting KAYLA’s CLOSET 2011 Prom Season
Join Daughters without Dads Inc. as we extend a helping hand to
Kayla’s Closet
WHAT IS KAYLA’s CLOSET?
A small group of volunteers who collect gently used and new formal wear for
ladies (shoes, pursues and accessories)...and then allow the ladies to come and
get them for their formal events. It is mostly used by High School and Middle
School girls, but we have provided dresses for seniors and for Mentally Disabled
Ladies, as well.
Getting the word out is the challenge! We need dresses and accessories, all sizes
and shapes. Prom and Wedding Maid dresses are the best fit. The best idea to
date is to send a flyer with Bridal Shower invitations and collect them at the
Bridal Shower. We need to make sure that ladies who need these dresses know
that they are available and when and where they can come and get them. We do
not collect any monies and are not able to issue a tax receipt. Spread the word.
Convince that lady to donate her dresses.
Dress donations can be made Monday thru Saturday from 9:00am until 5:00pm
