The proposed site for the vase is the
Versace boutique in Dusseldorf,
Germany. It is conceived by
Donatella Versace in collaboration
with the English architect Jamie
Fobert. The boutique occupies an
area of 540 square metres, skilfully
blending the opulence and
traditional architectural values of
Italy with the dynamism and energy
of Versace today.
One more interesting fact, the
boutique uses the Syrian plaitwork
motif mosaic flooring inside the
store. This makes it suitable location
for the vase because it blends the
modernism and the Syrian
Byzentine culture.

DESIGN CONCEPT

The concept used for this design is SURVIVED. This
design is inspired by the story of aborigine people in
Australia where the land before Australia today was
once a place that lying just above the ocean surface
However, one day the sea came in, and the area
has since been submerged. The concept originates
from how the place that lost everything, however
survived and now became a beautiful place that full
with sea coral and sea animals such as turtle, dolphin
and many more after the waves.

inspired from the form of the three motif selected which are Greek key pattern,
Vitruvian scroll and labrys motif. The motifs are linked together as the they are
connected to each other. Generally, Greek key (fig.1) is inspired from the form of
Labyrinth kingdom which the flow of river is infinity. Vitruvian scroll is actually
derived from the wave of Meander river which depicting the infinite
depth of the sea (fig. 3).

SAN LUA MOSAIC ON VASE
DESIGN STATEMENT
The concept of the design is Flexibility. It was inspired from the paddy terrace in Vietnam. As
an agricultural-based society, it is important for the farmers to be flexible, practical and
communally oriented in order to face the uncertain changes in the environment. The idea of
paddy terrace is to exploit the hilly landscape for the benefit of the community, without
harming the environment.
Thus, create balance which benefit both parties. In the design, we can see the flow of
the terrace shape that move freely through the vase and did not overlap. All the partitions
balance each other by giving space to each other. It illustrate how we should always be
flexible in our life or in making decision for if we are to rigid, then we will get stuck and our
vision will be limited.
The elephant foot and diamond symbol represent prosperity and something precious.
The small people, represent the community, in which we live. By opening our mind, and not
become too rigid, we could bring balance and prosperity in a community and peace is
something very precious and hard to achieve.

DESIGN STATEMENT
With its high mineral and salt content, the Dead
Sea is known as a place of healing. It is visited by
thousands each year seeking spa treatments,
therapies, and relaxation. It is believed to have
healing properties. Apart from that, the Dead
Sea is known to be very salty, so much that even
fish can’t survive in it. The salt content is known
to be 9 times more than the ocean.
According to Islamic tradition, however, it also
stands as a sign of God's punishment (The Story
of Prophet Lut). Dead Sea is known to be the site
of the ancient city of Sodom, home of the
Prophet Lut (Lot), peace be upon him.
The mosaic vase, BAHREEYAH depicts the story
of the waves with the blue curling in mosaic and
the top motifs are the intertwined celtic motif
and zig zag motif which depicts eternity and life
of the people respectively. Eternity depicts the
story of Lut and the eternal lesson it left for the
people by Allah.

The proposed site for this vase is the Kate
Spade Saturday showroom in West
Edmonton, Canada.
The Kate Spade started in the year 1993
and was founded by Katherine Noel
Brosnahan and her husband/business
partner Andrew (Andy) Spade. Kate Spade
now has over 180 stores around the world
and is sold in more than 400 stores
worldwide.
Since the vase has a story of the Dead Sea
in Jordan, with vibrant colours that
compliments the vibrant interiors of the
store, this site seems to be suitable. Since
the Dead Sea and beach denotes Summer
time, It’d be best to display the vase in the
Kate Spade Saturday showroom which is
more towards summer leisure wear.

The boutique occupies an area of 540 square metres, skilfully blending the opulence and traditional architectural values of Italy with the dynamism and energy of Versace today. • 13. SAN LUA MOSAIC ON VASE DESIGN STATEMENT The concept of the design is Flexibility. It was inspired from the paddy terrace in Vietnam. As an agricultural-based society, it is important for the farmers to be flexible, practical and communally oriented in order to face the uncertain changes in the environment. The idea of paddy terrace is to exploit the hilly landscape for the benefit of the community, without harming the environment. Thus, create balance which benefit both parties. In the design, we can see the flow of the terrace shape that move freely through the vase and did not overlap. All the partitions balance each other by giving space to each other. It illustrate how we should always be flexible in our life or in making decision for if we are to rigid, then we will get stuck and our vision will be limited. The elephant foot and diamond symbol represent prosperity and something precious. The small people, represent the community, in which we live. By opening our mind, and not become too rigid, we could bring balance and prosperity in a community and peace is something very precious and hard to achieve. It is believed to have healing properties. Apart from that, the Dead Sea is known to be very salty, so much that even fish can’t survive in it. The salt content is known to be 9 times more than the ocean. According to Islamic tradition, however, it also stands as a sign of God's punishment (The Story of Prophet Lut). Dead Sea is known to be the site of the ancient city of Sodom, home of the Prophet Lut (Lot), peace be upon him. The mosaic vase, BAHREEYAH depicts the story of the waves with the blue curling in mosaic and the top motifs are the intertwined celtic motif and zig zag motif which depicts eternity and life of the people respectively. Eternity depicts the story of Lut and the eternal lesson it left for the people by Allah. The design is symbolised by a peacock (portrays pride and royalty) MOSAIC ABOVE VASE 44 The proposed site for this vase is the Kate Spade Saturday showroom in West Edmonton, Canada. The Kate Spade started in the year 1993 and was founded by Katherine Noel Brosnahan and her husband/business partner Andrew (Andy) Spade. Kate Spade now has over 180 stores around the world and is sold in more than 400 stores worldwide. Since the vase has a story of the Dead Sea in Jordan, with vibrant colours that compliments the vibrant interiors of the store, this site seems to be suitable.
