Facilitating Virtual Small Groups
1.
2. WHY THE NEED FOR A SMALL GROUP MINISTRY:
Its makes communication easier and information is downloaded faster and clearer.
5 Ezra opened the book. All the people could see him because he was standing above them; and as he opened
it, the people all stood up. 6 Ezra praised the LORD, the great God; and all the people lifted their hands and
responded, “Amen! Amen!” Then they bowed down and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground. 7 The
Levites—Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan
and Pelaiah—instructed the people in the Law while the people were standing there. 8 They read from the Book of
the Law of God, making it clear and giving the meaning so that the people understood what was being read.
Nehemiah 8:5-8
It is also:
a. Personal
b. Participative

6. For you what shines out of
the text? What is the
highlight?
May tanong ba sa passage?
What would you like to ask the
author or the Lord about this
passage?
Sa discussion natin anong
personal application nito para
sa iyo?
7. What I like about this method:
The main focus is the Bible
Preparation is easier, more
emphasis on facilitation rather
than knowledge.
Engages and keeps interaction
high
9. 1. Pasimula at Pagsasa Puso– Attention Getter
This introduces the topic by starting with an interesting
activity.
This also reveals some things about the participants and
puts your participants at ease.
This also bridges the introduction by hooking their
attention then going to the next part of the activity.
10. 8 Ways to Introduce the Topic:
1. QUOTATION – “There is a great difference between
worry and concern. A worried person sees a problem, and
a concerned person solves a problem.”–Harold Stephen
1. Then you can ask everyone kung ‘agree or disagree?’
and briefly explain why.
2. RATE YOUR FEELING– “from 1 to 10 with ten as
having no worries, how would you rate yourself” then ask
why or care to share? This allows the facilitator to
immediately see kung ano ang emotional make up ng
kanyang group.
11. 8 Ways to Introduce the Topic:
3. NARRATIVE OR SHORT STORY– “I will mention some
words, do you have or remember any short story about
them– ready–“WORRY, FEAR, INSECURITY, ALARM”
The challenge for this kind of introduction is time especially
if many want to share stories which may take time. Another
challenge is that members might not be so open to go
directly to telling “stories”. So before the actual grouping
meet, ask somebody beforehand to share a short story.
Isa pa baka ma out of focus ang group with stories, the
facilitator should be in control of the flow kung ‘agree or
disagree?’ and briefly explain why.

13. 4. QUESTIONS– “bakit kaya sinabi ni Jesus na ‘Do not worry about tomorrow when all
our lives we are being thought to plan our lives? Hindi ba ang ‘worry’ ay natural emotion
when our plans fail?”
This opening may require facilitator to call out names and not wait for volunteer
especially when the questions may be too complicated for some.
5. OBJECT LESSON OR ASSOCIATION– “I will show you an object then tell me how it
affects you about your worries (negatively or positively). Let everyone share.
14. 6. METAPHOR/ PAHALINTULAD – sa mga dumadating na worry sa buhay ngayon – ano
ang pakiramdam mo kung ihahalintulad mo ito sa Panahon? Bagyo? Ambon? Tornado?
Sunny? Winter o ano pa?
This shows a the descriptive emotional make up of the one sharing.
7. REACTION TO AN ILLUSTRATION, A SONG, A VERSE, A POEM OR AN EVENT–
“Pag may nagdedicate ng song na “Don’t worry be happy” ni Bobby MacFerrin sa iyo
ano ang sasabihin mo sa kanya?
Sometimes you can listen to the song first so that everybody knows what's it about
8. COLOR ASSOCIATION– if you can paint worry what color would you use? Why?
15. Note:
After the introduction sharing and reaction, open in prayer by mentioning
some of the negative emotions and reaction and lifting them to the Lord
and praise God for the positive answers and experience. By opening in
prayer you establish that this is an activity centered about God and by
reading the bible you recognized that the bible is the authority about the
topic.End yung pasimula ng pagsasapuso ideally by memorizing the key
verse together but if not possible read together the verse which will be
the topic of your conversation.
You may end this way– “Thanks for the all your thoughts the bible has so
much to say about worrying lets look at one passage, kung pwede nyo
akong sundan lets read together: 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but
in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your
requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all
understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7
16. 2. Pag Usapan Natin- Looking at the verse/ topic
This is about verse or text itself as it relates to the
topic. It is observing what the text say by asking
the group what they see. This is done by asking at
least 2 questions:
• What does the verse say we must be do in life
situation? May situation ba na exempted?
• What guarantee does this verse say to those
who present their situation? May condition ba?
17. 3. Personalan Na– Application
It is asking the group members what this means to
them. The question must apply to their specific
situation. Example:
Do you have an area ng buhay mo that you really need
this verse?
What do you have more—Thanksgiving? Worry? Peace?
Give time for everyone to share.
18. 4. PABAON AT PANALANGIN– Takeaway/ assignment
This is an extension of the application part.
ask them what prayers or changes and outcome they
want to see after this sharing time.
What steps or actions ang gusto mong ipagpray
regarding this?
After hearing the concerns the facilitator prays for
them especially mentioning actions and outcomes
shared by the members.
19. SOME REMINDERS:
1.Do prepare for you small group meet up
2.Do treat every sharing time as confidential
3.Do allow everyone to share their thoughts
4.Do end in a positive note
5.Don’t force anyone to share especially personal things if they are
not ready
6.Do encourage questions
7.Do be mindful of time
8.Don’t end the small group without praying for each one
9.Don’t speak about the person when they are not there
