The Viking helmet is one of the most iconic symbols of Norse warriors. However, there is little evidence that Vikings actually wore horned helmets in battle. While horned helmets became popular in the 19th century Norse mythology and costume dramas, archaeological evidence and contemporary pictorial accounts suggest Vikings wore simple helmets made of leather, often with a nose guard.
