2. Thesis
The moment in “Antigone” in which Antigone
disobeys the law represents the love of family
being greater than the love of country because
she loves her brother more than her country’s
laws.
3. Argument
In the modern world, especially in the late 20th
century and throughout the Vietnam War, people
rose against their government because they
disagreed with what was going on and knew
what was best for them and their families. People
sacrificed very much, even their own lives for
other. They knew that their life may not be
great, but they wanted a better life for the
following generations of their family.
4. Modern Connection
We read the play today because we need to
understand that the idea of protesting against the
government was prominent in times long before
us. We can also use this to think more about
today’s world and make connections with other
culture and literature. Some things that have
occurred recently where peaceful government
protests took place was during the civil rights
movement and the Vietnam War.
