1. The ancient Greek city of Ephesus has so much to offer to tourists. It is currently located in the
Izmir Province in Turkey. The nearest town is Selcuk. Arzawan Empire made Euphesus its
capital during 10th
Century. The city became a major power and cultural hub during classical
Greek period. Roman Republic made its important center once they took over it in 129 BC. At
the peak of its glory, the city had population of around 56,000. This made it most populated city
after Alexandr is Troas and Sardis in the Asia Minor ruled by Romans. The famous Temple of
Artemis’s construction finished in 550 BC.

population for the first time. The excavations have shown the evidence of the settlements. The

of Arzawa in the Asia Minor. This region later became the Ephesus during the Greek rule. The
Ceramic pots obtained during the excavations of 1954 proved that those are from the Mycenaean
era. Those were found near by the St. John’s basilica. This was around 13th
century BC period
when Achaioi settled in the area.
Ionian colony of Ephesus was developed in the 10th
century BC on the Ayasuluk Hill.
Androklos, the prince of Athens founded the city after the death of King Kadros, his father. The
prince forced Lelegian and Carian people in the city to leave and formed city with his own
people. He managed to create the Ionian league by uniting twelve’s cities in the region. The
