2. Input Devices
In computing, an input devices is a piece of equipment used to provide data
and control signals to an information processing system, such as a computer or
information applications.
Devices that is used to feed data into a computer is called input devices.
Some examples of input devices are: keyboard, mouse, scanners, camera,
joysticks, microphones, etc.
3. Keyboard
Keyboard is the primary input device of any computer system. It is called QWERTY.
It is operate by converting key presses to electronic signals in binary digital form.
The key of computer keyboard are classified into following

4. Mouse
Mouse is a hand-held pointing device which is typically translated into the motion
of a pointer on a display. It allows us to control the pointer in a graphical user
interface (GUI) for pointing, moving and selecting text, icon, files and folder.
There are three (3) types of mouse:
(ii). Optical mouse: An optical mouse is a computer mouse
which uses a leaser light to detect the mouse’s movement.

Touch panel
A touch panel or touch screen is an input device that lets users interact with a
computer by touching the screen directly. A user can give input or control the
information processing system by touching the screen with a special stylus or fingers.

6. Light Pen
A light pen is also an input device used for pointing or
selecting the objects in the screen. It is a pen like device,
which consists of photo sensitive detector as its tip.
It allows the user to point to displayed objects, or draw
on the screen, in a similar way to touch a screen but with
greater positional accuracy. It is generally used for drawing Fig: Light pen
and in computer aided design(CAD).
Scanners
Scanners are used to input images an or text printed on a paper into a computer,
7. allowing the computer to read and/ or display the scanned object.
A scanner works by digitizing an image. This means it divides
printed images into grid of boxes and representing each box
with a combination of zeros and ones. There are different kind of scanners,
such as:
Optical Character Reader (OCR).
Optical Bar-Code Reader (OBCR).
Optical Mark Reader (OMR).
Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR). Fig: OCR OBCR

8. Touch Pad
Touch Pad is a pointing device which has a tactical sensor in it.
It is specialized surface that can translated the motion and
position of a user’s fingers to a relative position on the operating
system that is made output to the screen. Touch Pad are the
common feature of laptops and is also a substitute for a mouse. Fig: Touch Pad
Digital Camera
Digital camera is a camera that produces digital images which
can be stored on a computer, displayed on a screen and printed
as well. These camera are now widely incorporated into mobile Fig: Camera
devices like smartphone with the same or more capabilities and features.
9. Microphone
Microphone is a common input device, generally referred
as a mic or mike which converts sound into electrical signal.
Microphone comes from the Greek words ‘micro’ meaning small
and ‘phone’ meaning voice. Microphones enable many types of
audio recording devices for purposes including communications of
many kinds, as well as music vocals and sound recording. Fig: Microphone
Uses
The main purpose of an input device is to enable computer operators to have control
of the computer and send data such as text, images or sounds to the computer.
