Having been worked as a Mandarin Teacher for nearly three years,I was always asked by people
on same question:“Why do you work as a Mandarin Teacher?”,which was also a question to
myself. There are two reasons here that I would like to explain and share:the popularity of
Mandarin and my teaching dream.
Statistically, there are more than 100 million foreign speakers and learners of Mandarin
worldwide with 350,000 studying Chinese language in 746 Chinese universities last year. The
popularity of Mandarin is inevitable, which also means Mandarin Teachers are definitely in high
demand worldwide. Some countries have set Chinese language as a compulsory subject in the
universities.Americans are required and encouraged by the President Obama to learn Chinese as
second foreign languagethat shows Chinese is becoming more valued in the US.
Teaching has always been my passion. I love expressions, challenge and diversity. By Being a
Mandarin Teacher, I can express and explain in native language to teach foreign students, I can
experience the conflicts of different culture and understand their various personalities and
customs. The other reason of being a teacher is that teaching gives me the sense of achievement.
During my teaching period, I have helped one student with beginner’s level to achieve HSK3,
which encouraged me to insist on being a teacher.
I have got over two years of work experience, which has been really encouraging and enriching.
Besides teaching foreigners, I realized that there are a lot of things that I can learn from my
students. They are energetic, enthusiastic and positive in learnings, which helps me improved in
my teaching methods.Teaching is not an easy job. That’s why lots of people don’t want to choose
teaching as their career. But if you are a good teacher, you can do any job in the world.Because
you are a nice person, you can keep a good relationship with people and the world around you.
In 2012,I entered Peking University for International Chinese Teachers training and was
certificated by ICLTA,Internatioanl Chinese Language Teachers Association, with senior grade.I
became more confident and activein this careerbased on this official certificate.
