A member of Lok Sabha asked the Home Affairs Minister (a) if the government was aware it missed the deadline to frame rules for the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and (b) the reasons for not framing them. The Minister of State responded that (a) while the CAA was notified in December 2019 and came into force in January 2020, the time to frame the rules has been extended until January 2022 as the Subordinate Legislation Committees of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were requested to grant more time, and (b) did not provide further details on the reasons for not framing the rules on time.
