I grew up in Charlottesville, Virginia. I lived a normal life until my parents decided to move overseas to The Republic of Georgia. Determined, they sold our house and everything in it. Before we relocated, my family and I spent one year exploring Europe, Northern Africa and Asia. Living in that blue Volkswagen minivan was not exactly what I expected when I left the USA, but it changed my life forever. From the UK, we traveled to Almaty, Kazakhstan. Those twelve months felt like the longest in my life, but were definitely the most interesting. I learned Turkish culture, Greek architecture, Arabic grammar, and survival in the Kazakh desert.
