The election year is upon us and at the forefront is Donald Trump a wealthy businessman
whose has made millions through various business endeavors, but is he the leader this nation is
looking for or the one who is going to bring resolve or destruction only time will tell. What we
are looking at directly regarding Donald Trump is his leadership style and how it will benefit
America. The problem is Donald Trump uses coercion to get what he wants and often times it
backfires (Riggio, 2014). Take for instance his stance on abortion when asked the question by a
19 year old Tanya Niemi, “What is your stance on women’s rights and their right to choose in
their own reproductive health?” Trump’s response was that he was pro-life, but with exceptions
as he felt that there has to be some form of punishment for the women who chooses abortion as
an option (Dokoupil & Siemaszko, 2016). These types of statements prove that Donald Trump
would be considered an autocratic leader because otherwise he would consult his campaign
manager before he simply flies off the cuff with answers (Mindtools (a), 2015).
Donald Trump also tries to place pressure on the other party during the debate as a way to
avoid the question or scrutiny from those present at the debate. Trump’s influential tactics have
included claims that a candidate was not a U.S. Citizen and, thus was not able to run for
President. He has also used such tactics claiming a party violated federal campaigning laws
which would be considered a felony, but those accusations were found to be false (Caruso,
2016). Although money often means power and can usually get people what they want, Donald
Trump will still fall short of the White House. He has alienated too many voters specifically
women and the Hispanic community and without their backing he won’t defeat Ted Cruz the
party running against him for the Republican ticket.
Trump’s leadership style may be effective in business, but it doesn’t play well in the
political arena. His ethics are less than ideal for any ticket and he doesn’t adopt any conscious

capitalism ideals because he is so willing to throw others under the bus as well as back pedal on
answers when he sees they have a potential negative impact on his campaign. Donald Trump
doesn’t show a servants heart because he so easily tries to serve two masters World and money,
and you will love one and despise the other (Holy Bible, n.d.). The other issue plaguing Donald
Trump’s run for the White House is that he is not religious in any way alienating him further
than any other candidate. It seems that Donald Trump has only succeed in making the
Presidential race a complete spectacle because of all his off the wall comments, ludicrous
accusations, and his inability to have an intellectual conversation. Some American’s fear that if
Donald Trump became President then the apocalypse is upon us.
Leadership is a privilege that should not be taken lightly. It is a privilege to inspire others
to achieve their vision and goals. It is the job of the leader to support member’s professional as
well as personal development. The more you recognize staff for their achievements the more
trust and respect you will receive. As a leader I will be approachable because as a leader I want
members to come to me with situations good or bad, so that I am always a part of the information
flow. I will only delegate decisions I know my team members can make and are appropriate to
their level of responsibility. I will strive to not be a micromanager as it only undermines the
team. When delegating I will trust and verify as well as provide guidance and support. I will
critique, but not criticize. My actions shall speak louder than my words because I believe in
leadership by example. I welcome opportunities to work with members of my team, but also
realize that each of us have a distinct role to play and that is not interchangeable. I will
encourage creativity, freedom, and innovation as long as it aligns with the mission, vision, values
and goals of the organization. My job is to foster a culture of creativity, and to be decisive
knowing when to make a decision and when not to, communicating to staff exactly why a

decision was made. I will strive to say what I mean and mean what I say. I will be open and
honest with my communication and be effective in that communication ensuring that it is clear,
concise, concrete, correct, coherent, complete, and courteous (Mindtools (b), 2015). I believe as
a leader I have the responsibility to recognize and reward contributions, but will not mix
compliments with criticism. Finally, as a leader I will develop pride and leadership throughout
the organization to ensure organizational success.
