Why Typing Legibly on the Internet Matters.
-Catherine Schultheis
2. The Basic Gist.
The internet is a broad expanse of information
and conversation, with a comfort blanket of
anonymity left there to protect wearers from any
sense of personal guilt. This, however, does not
excuse the public use of shorthand typing or
ignorance based on the subject. First
impressions are everything, an on the internet,
the first thing a person sees are your methods of
typing.
3. What sort of impressions can be
made?
Many folks are aware that the main purpose of the internet is research
and socializing. If the research has several eye-gouging grammatical
flukes, it makes the reports obsolete and not too reassuring.
In a social gathering such as World of Warcraft, or Facebook, some
people will judge another based on how well said person types in a
casual chat session. Some have even been labelled as “stupid” for being
incoherent in their grammar usage on the internet.
4. Why else would this matter?
Any information that you place onto the internet is available to those
searching for employees. If they see another’s typing, and notice that it’s
a jumbled mess of fancy symbols and “lols”, it isn’t likely that they will
hire said person. It is also likely that using short hand on the internet can
be viewed as unprofessional and immature.
Practice makes perfect. The more a person practices proper grammar
usage in a casual setting on the internet, the more they can apply it in real
life. They will have a greater chance at success, as well as carrying on to
achieve awesome things during their lifetime.
6. Last Words.
Remember, it doesn’t hurt to capitalize words in
your Tweets every once in a while. It might just
land you a job.
7. Inspiration.
