1. Amsterdam is a city with
a future. It has job training,
tax abatements, a developing tech park,
a downtown revival and more. Everywhere
you look, Amsterdam is committed to
becoming the vibrant commercial hub that it
was during much of its long and storied
history.
Initiatives include:
Downtown revitalization. In keeping with the rebirth of
Riverlink Park, the city's next projects spread across both
banks of the Mohawk River. On the south shore, the Via
Ponte initiative begins with the rebuilding of a three-block
area to feature a new streetscape and renovation of older
buildings into small shops, eateries, and loft apartments.
A $500,000 Main Street grant will kick-start development on
the river's north shore, while a proposed pedestrian bridge
will connect the two shores in an exciting downtown.
Business opportunities. Amsterdam's Industrial Development
Agency offers relocating businesses a host of benefits:
property tax abatements, competitive lease rates, access to job
training and employee referrals, relocation assistance, and
considerably more. Meanwhile, revolving loan funds from the
Amsterdam Urban Renewal Agency and Montgomery County
Chamber of Commerce aim to stimulate small business and
property development within the city limits. Additionally, the
Amsterdam-Florida-Glen Empire Zone offers many incentives
to qualified businesses.
A new technology park and other spaces. Located in the
Empire Zone at the heart of Amsterdam, the Mohasco
Technology Campus will sit onlO acres along the
Chuctanunda Creek. This site will add to the dynamic business
atmosphere exemplified in the Edson Street Industrial Park at the
city's edge. Its location along the New York State Thruway and its
close proximity to air travel and shipping ports provides
entrepreneurs with a business-ready location in addition to the
established utility services already on site.
