About Event
Each year, The World Geriatric Summit features the latest innovations,
science, clinical best practices on clinical care, research on aging, and
innovative models of care delivery. The World Geriatric Summit offers
many continuing education sessions, including keynote sessions,
workshops, and plenary sessions. Sessions will include information
about emerging clinical issues, current research in geriatrics,
education, health policy, and delivery of geriatric health care.
Through keynote presentations, workshops and informal conversation,
we will search for answers to a wide range of complex issues such as
● What are the latest medical equipment & technology in geriatric
● What are the challenges in a rapidly aging society
● How to we overcome the contemporary issues in global health care
Keynote Presentations
Prof. Hiroko Akiyama
A social psychologist and professor at the Institute of Gerontology, University of Tokyo and the
former vice president of Science Council of Japan.
Dr Akiyama's specialty is gerontology. She engaged in the National Survey of the Japanese
Elderly, a tracking survey that followed changes in the physical and mental health, economics,
and social relations of senior citizens over 25 years. In recent years, she has been pursuing
social experiment projects that pioneer to re-design communities to meet the needs of the
highly aged society and allow the elderly to successfully ‘age-in-place.’
Dr Roger A. Barker
Professor of Clinical Neuroscience and Honorary Consultant in Neurology at the University of
Cambridge and at Addenbrooke’s Hospital
His main interest are in the neurodegenerative disorders of the nervous system in particular
Parkinson’s disease and Huntington’s disease. He combines basic research looking at novel
therapies (including cell transplants) to treat these conditions with clinically based work on defining
the natural history and heterogeneity of both Huntington’s disease and Parkinson’s disease and is
the co-ordinator of the FP& Transneuro project looking at foetal cell grafting in patients with early
PD
Prof. Kaarin J. Anstey
Professor of Psychology at the Australian National University and Director of the Centre for
Research on Ageing, Health and Wellbeing
Professor Anstey’s research interests span several domains of healthy and productive ageing,
with a focus on cognitive function. She has worked extensively with longitudinal studies and leads
the PATH Through Life study, a 16-year population-based study of three cohorts, including over
7000 adults, spanning early to late adulthood. She is also working on interventions to reduce the
risk of cognitive decline and dementia and to promote healthy ageing.
