PART IV: Section 2a – Narrative
The Susquehanna Township Alumni Association (“Organization”) was formed and operates
exclusively for the purpose of promoting, supporting, and carrying out programs and activities
for the benefit of alumni and current students of the Susquehanna Township School District, a
public school district located in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania in the south-central part of the
state (“School District”). The Organization engages in a variety of activities designed to:
1. Promote the educational, recreational, and athletic interests of School District students
and alumni, and to foster continuing relationships.
2. Serve as an educational forum for alumni to maintain contact with the School District and
one another.
3. Support periodic events for alumni, students, and community at-large.
4. Carry out fund raising and other charitable activities for the benefit of the School District,
current students, and alumni under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or
corresponding section of any future federal tax code.
5. Function as the alumni’s official voice in communicating with the School District.
All benefits are provided without discrimination including race, national origin, color, religion,
sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability (physical or mental), or age.
The Organization was re-established in the mid 1980’s after an earlier effort in 1922 was not
sustained. Initially the Organization was a social entity but in recent years, school district and
community based endeavors have been in the forefront. The Alumni Association holds a Spring
and Fall Breakfast at the High School cafeteria along with a Spring Banquet to allow alumni to
network and to obtain school district & general alumni news. In addition three informative
Alumni Newsletters (“Smoke Signal”) are published throughout the year.
The Organization sponsored World War II Memorial was dedicated on Memorial Day,
Monday May 28, 2007 at Veterans Park on Elmerton Avenue. The memorial reflects over 800
names of men and women who served their country in this campaign. On May 31, 2009 the

Organization dedicated the Korean War Memorial to the citizens of Susquehanna Township.
Efforts are underway to construct a Vietnam War Memorial. The Organization’s golf event
fundraiser was established to assist in the initial construction effort.
The Organization, along with class and individual alumni donors, provided funds to
assist the school district in the 2011 installation of a high resolution free standing twenty-foot
Digital Sign. The Digital Sign promotes school events and community act ivies.
The Organization has and will serve as a vehicle to connect the school district and its
alumni to the community at large. The STHS band was invited by Mr. Allen Welch, 1st Vice
President of the Vietnam Veterans of America Michael J Novosel Capital Area Chapter 542 to
play at the opening ceremony of the Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam
War on Saturday, October 13. The Organization coordinated the outreach between the school
district and the chapter.
The Organization coordinated the production of an alumni video that played during the
June 2012 100th
Graduation ceremony. Distinguished alumni congratulated the 100th
graduation classes and extended words of encouragement and wishes for continued success.
The Organization’s first annual Scholarship to a graduating senior was awarded in
May of 2013 during the school district’s Senior Awards Night.
The priority of receipts and their sources are as follows:
1. Gifts from individuals, including alumni, friends, and family;
2. Gifts or grants from corporations;
3. Gifts or grants from U.S. and State governmental agencies; and,
4. Fundraising events and activities, such as alumni apparel sales, carnival booths,
food sales, and the like.
