Recent employment history
June 2008 – Present: Sales Engineer, AVT Services
My role with AVT includes sales, installation, repair and maintenance of scientific
equipment such as cryogenic vacuum pumps, thin film evaporative coaters and Helium
leak detection. AVT service clients throughout Australia in the manufacturing, scientific and
research industries.
My client base includes CSIRO, ANSTO, NMI, University of New South Wales, Sydney
University, Macquarie University, University of Wollongong, UWS and UTS
Universities. Industrial customers include BOC, Silanna, Qantas and Pacific Waste
to name a few.
A large percentage of my sales calls are cold calling on a monthly or quarterly basis,
depending on the size and activity of the customer. One of my most frequent sales
areas is selling on site annual and quarterly pump and coater preventative
maintenance.
As well as selling and installing almost $2.1 million worth of thin film evaporative
equipment and anaerobic glove boxes for AVT, I secured the company an exclusive
Australia and New Zealand distributorship of British firm Saffron's anaerobic glove
boxes.
Additionally I perform Bi annual service procedures on a VOICE 200 fumigants detection
system at the Australian Customs Services. Another role I am responsible for is
performing major service procedures on CTI Cryogenic Pumps tested after service to
<10
o
Kelvin.
1989-2007: Owner/Managing Director, Photofix Pty Ltd and Elab Digital Pty Ltd
I launched Photofix after working for major photographic companies such as 3M
Photo in both my native South Africa, USA, UK and in Sydney after I emigrated in
1985.
I employed nine service and maintenance technicians and serviced such clients as
Kodak, Fuji, Rabbit Photo and Fletchers Photographics, carrying out installation,
servicing and repairs to commercial photo processing laboratories throughout
eastern and southern Australia from offices in Sydney and Melbourne.
2. A significant part of Photofix’s income was derived from selling 12 month service and
preventative maintenance contracts to chains such as Kodak Express, Fuji Image
Plaza, ColourCare, Klikk etc. I had a customer base in excess of 600 outlets out of
a total of approximately 3500 sites, 17% of the total available market.
As well as the above, I developed and patented two environmental products that sold
successfully worldwide, a photo chemical recycling unit (ENVIROGEN) and
recyclable photo filter. The Chemical Recycling Unit saved customers 50% of their
chemical costs while the Recyclable Photofilter cut their cost of filtration by 80%.
Further income was then derived by opening a Filter Recycling Centre where we
recycled the filter membrane for the customer for a monthly fee. On some
occasions the recycling process was added on to the monthly Preventative
Maintenance Contract at a reduced cost which served to maintain a loyal customer
base.
In 2002, I secured exclusive Australian distribution rights for the French made KIS Digital
Minilab and related products and sold 18 units worth between $40,000 and $180,000 in
three years.
I sold Photofix in November 2003, I continued to market, sell and service KIS machinery
throughout Australia through a new company, Elab Digital, and was contracted by
Siltech, the buyer of Photofix, to manage the 18-month process of training of all
technical staff.
