Melissa Benoist became interested in the world of art when she was still a child, at
the age of three. However, at the beginning of her career, the actress wanted to
become a dancer. At the age of four, after starring in a religious play directed by her
grandmother, Benoist became interested in acting.
After graduating from high school, Melissa Benoist went to drama school, and
before graduating, she landed small roles in TV series such as Blue Bloods and Law
& Order: SVU.
Shortly after graduating from drama school, Melissa Benoist landed one of the most
important roles of her career. In 2012, the actress was cast as Marley Rose in the
series Glee, which united comedy, drama and musical under Ryan Murphy.
The actress' performance was highly praised, both for her dramatic direction and for
her great musical talent. Her role in Glee certainly helped Benoist to get cast in
Supergirl.

After a huge success in Glee, Melissa Benoist has finally
been cast as Supergirl in the series of the same name. The
role is to this day the best known of the actress' career.
"With Supergirl, my intention was to represent women. I
always wanted to play someone they could relate to, a
character who is complicated and full of flaws, but who
always tries to do her best," said the actress about her
character.
The series was a huge success, reaching a 90% approval
rating at Rotten Tomatoes. In an episode of the production's
fifth season, Benoist also had her first job as a director.

Melissa Benoist married actor Chris Wood in 2019. The two co-starred on Supergirl, a
series in which Wood plays Mon-El. The actor is also known for living the villainous Kai
Parker on The Vampire Diaries.

In 2019, Melissa Benoist vented about her first marriage to actor Blake Jenner, with
whom she co-starred on Glee. The actress revealed that Jenner was violent and
abusive, both physically and emotionally
