O&G receives three awards from CCIA

O&G received three awards at the annual Connecticut Construction Industries Association (CCIA) awards dinner on Wednesday. The
awards included recognition for safety and community service.
O&G received two Excellence in Construction Health and Safety recognitions including one for the New Haven joint venture project with
Tutor Perini. O&G also received a Community Service recognition for the Platt Builds project in Meriden.
2. Building Division
Platt Builds program kicks off in Meriden
The 2nd
annual Platt Builds program kicked off at Platt High School in Meriden on September 24th
. The program is led by O&G Pro-
ject Manager Dave Cravanzola, Project Superintendent Steve Baranello and Project Engineer Megan Semenetz.
The program is a partnership between O&G and Platt High School where students from Platt High School considering construction
related careers have an opportunity to get hands-on exposure to the various aspects of a live construction project.
This year’s class is made up of 15 seniors, 3 juniors and 1 sophomore considering careers in plumbing, electrical and architec-
ture. The program will run throughout the school year with students earning .50 Personalized Education credits for their participation
in the program.

On Friday morning, Governor Dannel Malloy visited Orville H. Platt High School in Meriden to tour the facility and view the completed
phase I of IV.
Governor Malloy was joined by State Senator Dante Bartolomeo, Randi Weingarten from the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), Con-
necticut AFT President Melodie Peters, Meriden Federation of Teachers (MFT) President and Lincoln Middle School Teacher Erin Benham,
the Meriden Superintendent of Schools Mark Benigni, as well as senior members of the Meriden schools administrative staff, who were lead
on a tour by O&G Project Manager David Cravanzola, Project Superintendent Steve Baranello and Project Engineer Megan Semenetz.
4. Phase I of the renovations will be completed this month featuring a new 60,000 sf academic wing that will include classroom space, four
science classrooms, a modern library with computer access points in support of the school districts bring your own device policy.

The renovations are highlighted by a two-story, cantilevered Media Center. The renovations also include an energy efficient “daylight harvest-
ing” system that helps to conserve energy by dimming or brightening the interior lights in response to the natural lighting conditions that exist
in the classroom.
