Jersey is a parliamentary democracy that is a dependency of the British Crown. The States of Jersey refers to both the island’s parliament, the States Assembly, and to the government administration, the public sector. The States are divided into 10 departments, each of which has a Minister and at least one Assistant Minister. The departments deal with different aspects of island life, and include - Health, Treasury, Transport and Technical Services, Social Security, Home Affairs, Education, Economic Development and Planning.
