This document provides guidance for hotels on offering a baby-sitting service. It notes that the hotel does not directly employ babysitters but arranges them through an agency. Parents must pay babysitters directly and be introduced to them. Hotels will provide support to babysitters if needed, such as contacting parents if a child becomes ill or evacuating children in an emergency. A form is included for parents to provide details of their child/children and consent to the terms of the service.

Form – Request for baby-sitting service
Please read these notes carefully before signing this form:
1. An arrangement is in place with a local nanny or childcare agency for the supply of a baby sitter.
The hotel does not employ the baby sitter.
2. The parent/guardian must pay the fee for this service to the baby sitter direct.
3. The baby sitter will be introduced to the parent/guardian.
4. The baby sitter will not leave the room. The hotel will provide immediate support should the baby
sitter call on Reception and in particular in the following circumstances:
▪ If the child asks for its parents, then the baby sitter will inform Reception who will contact the
parents
▪ If the child becomes ill, the baby sitter will contact Reception who will contact the parents. In
an emergency, Reception will call for an ambulance and contact the parents immediately. In a
non-emergency situation, the Hotel Doctor should be called, and Reception will contact the
parent/guardian
▪ A qualified first aider will be on duty in the hotel whilst baby-sitting is in progress
▪ No smoking or eating will be allowed by the baby sitter in the bedroom
▪ In the event of an emergency evacuation of the hotel, the baby sitter under the direction of the
hotel will be responsible for evacuating the child/children from the hotel
