1. The Eyes of a Warrior: My Hero These are the eyes of a warrior. In a two game tournament on Saturday my son was elbowed underneath his left eye and taken out of the first game with an eleven point lead at the end of the third quarter. The team managed to hang on to the lead and get the victory without him having to come back into the game. They had one more game to go four hours later and Jimmy's eye did not look very good at all. I didn't have much to say, but prayed that he would be fine and I left it up to him whether he wanted to play the second game. My wife and I had a leadership meeting that evening and knew that we would be late for the second game. We arrived right at the end of the third period and Jimmy had just hit a three pointer from about two to three feet beyond the arc. One of the dads got me caught up and was commending Jimmy for how hard he was playing and stated that he was virtually carrying the team to victory. Well as I got into the game I noticed his determination and perseverance to get this win. He wanted to avenge an earlier loss to this cross town rival. I find myself amazed at Jimmy's character and integrity that he displays during the most trying times. My son's actions have prompted me to make him my hero. I am so proud of my son that I am gushing with pride and honor to call him my first born and son. He is a prince with heart and determination that I thank God for and believe that he is only scratching the surface of one day being a hero to his own son one day. So when things get tough for me I will remember that cold winter night in a gym where Jimmy Smylie showed character, integrity and determination to get victory and abound over the challenges and obstacle placed before him and make it my purpose to do the same in all of my future endeavors. Here's to you Jimmy the best son any father could ever be given the pleasure of having a relationship. All my love and respect I give to you, My Hero.
