A PRESS RELEASEor PSA.
“The American Museumof the House Cat”, Is opening near Dillsboro, North
Carolinaon April first 2017.
I startedcollecting items relatedtothe house cat long before I openedthe
Catman2 shelter. My missionnowis todisplay my collectionina museum
where these items canbe sharedand enjoyedby all cat lovers, and a place
where everyone canlearnmore about the house cat. My collection, of more
than 30 years, contains:Fine Art, Art Glass, antique cat toys, some going back to
the 1890’s, cat advertising usedtoattract people topurchase all kinds of things,
and so, so much more.
The museum will be an educational institutionwhere one will learnthe
history of the house cat, its place of originand migrationall over the world, and
will show how the cat has interactedwithmanthroughout the ages. The
museum wouldbe enjoyable as well.
The location of the museum is “The Old-School House Antique Mall”, alocal
landmark for more than 20 years, found on highway 441 just southof Dillsboro.
The museumwill occupy two large rooms attached to the antique sales areaand
accessed throughone of two entrances. The museumcould be self-guided, but I
hope tofind volunteers whowill be able to spendtime there topoint out items
and explainand answer questions about them.
There will be a small admissionfee, and visitors might be askedto make an
additional small donation, as any income, after cost, would be givento
theCatman2 Shelter, (www.catman2.org) whichI built and have been involved
withfor the past 20 years. Income from the museum could become a major
source of income from the shelter andinterest inthe museumwill attract
people tovisit the Shelter, itself, as well as other attractionsthroughout
westernNC.
The house cat is now saidto be America’s most popular pet and any cat
lover, knowing about “The AmericanMuseumof the House Cat,”will want to
visit it.
(Go on to secondpage)
There are many house cat museums throughout the world, but only one other
House Cat Museum, now, in America. (Google “Cat Museums of the World”on
your computer.) The only other Cat Museumis innorthernOhio. Catmasn2’s
museum will put Sylva, Dillsboro, and Jackson County, on the Map and will add
another attraction, and reason, for people to travel toNorthCarolina.
