3. Classesfromsix primaryschools inthe Ellesmere Portenvirons attendedperformancesof aplay
basedon the folktale “The PiedPiper”atActiontransportTheatre.Subsequentlyeachschool chose
a folktale froma pre preparedshortlist.The directorandI thenvisitedthe schools,spendingthree
daysin each.Duringthe firstday the childrentookpart invariousdrama activities,concentratingon
readingandwritingscenesbasedonfolktales.Onthe seconddayI setup a temporaryrecording
environmentinthe classroomand overthe remainingtwodays recordedthe childrenreadingtheir
chosenfolktale.Itwasorganisedsothat each childhadat leastone line toread (dependingonthe
choice of story and numberof childreninthe class).Ialsorecordedthe childrenmakingsound
effectstosupportthe story.I theneditedthe six storiestoproduce aseriesof radiostyle recitations.
I alsowrote and performedaseriesof shortmusical piecesappropriate foreachstoryas introsand
outros.I thencompiledthese intoanaudioCD,whichIproducedcopiesof foreach school,andfor
Ellesmere Portlibrary.The storieswere premieredatthe libraryaspart of an initiativetoencourage
the childrentogo to the library.I alsodidthe graphicdesignforthe CD case and inlays.

basedon conversationsinthe outpatientdepartmentatDenbighHospital.The production
was commissionedby Betsi CadwaladrUniversityHealthBoard,aspart of theirarts in health
