Viewers who DVR or TIVO recorded the episode could go back, still the screen, and scan the code, which takes you to an interactive web page for the HBO series.

  9. 9. Overall POV <ul><li>QR codes are an interesting emerging tactic to monitor and test, but not one that is essential in the marketing toolbox (in North America). What you need to read a QR code <ul><li>A web-enabled mobile phone with a camera </li></ul><ul><li>QR code reader software installed on your phone </li></ul><ul><li>Some commonly used reader software (usually free) includes Barcode Scanner on Androids, Messenger 5.0 on Blackberries, and Semacode on iPhones </li></ul>

Cons of QR code use <ul><li>There are many different QR code reader software programs available, and no single program works on every code. </li></ul><ul><li>There are many code generator programs and types of QR codes – and you can’t read all of them with just one reader program. </li></ul><ul><li>Three code reader programs were necessary to read all codes in this report on an Android – Barcode Scanner, ScanLife, and Microsoft Tag Reader (gettag.mobi). </li></ul>
