I am writing to you on behalf of Shaun Gurmin, a graduate of the 2015-2016 PGCE (PCE) English
Literacy course at the University of Wolverhampton. I am the University of Wolverhampton PGCE
PCE award leader and a senior lecturer here. I was Shaun’s teacher, tutor and observer during the
course.
We prefer students on the course to have prior teaching experience and, based on Shaun´s
application, I am aware he started teaching after completing the CELTA in 2012 and he has
continued to teach ever since - therefore having four years of teaching experience. Shaun has taught
in further education and higher education institutions in the UK, he has taught in Spain, and he has
worked as an online teacher of English. I am also confident of his teaching experience because of his
informed and considered contributions made during university lectures, his reflections used in his
course journal and in university essays as well as his teaching practice (which I observed on a regular
basis).
Shaun’s progress over the year on the PGCE really has been very good. He has taken on board
feedback from his placement mentors as well as from me and worked hard to show development in
all aspects of his teaching. He is keen to learn as much as he can about teaching and learning and is
very pro-active in seeking out ways to make progress as a teacher, for which I commend him. He has
always produced very good academic work and delights in thoroughly researching whatever he is
tasked with. He is punctual, polite and trustworthy. I have no hesitation in recommending him to
you and fully support his application to work in your organisation.
