Work Experience
Education
Skills
• Sketching
o Used to communicate and document my design ideas. For example, I developed the Thermoelectric
Cooler’s form through sketching.
• Intermediate level skills in SolidWorks, Keyshot, and 3D Printing
o I use SolidWorks and Keyshot to create 3D photorealistic models on the computer. For
example, with the Standwich I used computer rendering to show the chair’s various design features
including base shape, arm rest positions and how the seat tilts forward and backward.
• Advanced skills in Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign
o I use Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign to display my design projects. For example, I will
enhance a photo of a product in Photoshop, place that photo in a diagram in Illustrator and
consolidate the entire project in a formatted InDesign document. By using these programs
seamlessly together I am able to create stunning visuals for my design projects.
• Research and User Testing
o I did extensive research and testing when developing a recycled pulp medical sharps disposal
container. I redesigned the sharps container to be more eco-friendly because the base would be
made out of pulp instead of plastic. My research and user testing ensured the new pulp sharps
container maintained transportation and disposal standards for sharps medical waste.
• Reliable and self-motivated; a team player, yet able to work without close supervision
o I was a lifeguard at the YMCA for many years. I was entrusted with opening and prepping the pool
alone in the mornings. Then work with other lifeguards when swimming lessons or other aquatic
programs were scheduled. Lifeguards work in teams to ensure patrons’ happiness and safety during
swimming activities.
• Professionally able to accept and provide feedback
o Feedback is an excellent way to move your design project forward. During school I learned that the
best projects were the ones reworked multiple times. Feedback is an excellent way to ensure
nothing is missed, the ideas are well communicated and the project is the best possible rendition.
• Model-making, shop experience and prototypes
o I have experience creating appearance models and working prototypes. For example, I created two
working prototypes for my tilting surgeon’s chair using wood, a bike seat, metal rods and a lawn
seat cushion. I created the prototypes to prove my hypothesis that the same tilting chair could
support a sitting or standing surgeon. These working prototypes were created in the wood and
metal shops. They provided qualitative data that influenced the outcome of the Standwich’s tilting
chair design.
