Dear Sirs,
My name is Shamsul Khan and I wish to apply for the position as mentioned, because I have the
experience, skills and attributes required to perform the role, which will allow me to prove my
credentials and create an ongoing relationship which will lead to a long term career path in line with
the firm's visions and values, it's cultures and beliefs.
I was in charge of the middle office function of a FCA regulated sell-side boutique stockbroker - First
Equity Limited in London - for 12 years, serving the needs of the entire company client base ranging
from high net worth individuals to hedge funds. My duties covered monitoring settlements of trades
which ranged to the millions of pounds and were global in destination including US, Canada,
Australia, establishing, creating and maintaining relationships with clients, their middle office,
market counterparties, settlement agents, prime brokers and custodians in order to ensure smooth
settlement, provide customer service which maintained firm reputation and maximised commission
revenue. Additional duties included, reconciliation, transaction reporting and client onboarding. I
was also a member of the management and compliance committees which made decisions that
affected the future of the firm. During my time there, I assisted in the development of a bespoke
internal system, streamlining processes and making the operations function more efficient and
easier. I also managed the migration of the company's entire client portfolio between outsourced
providers.
My role at Charles Schwab Europe was dominated by settlement and reconciliation, product
coverage including Traded Options, cash equities and bonds, systems including CREST GUI, Euroclear
and AS400. I learned settlement life cycle process from data entry to settlement, documenting
procedures and teaching staff members all the roles I did, in order that I may be deployed in other
areas of the organisation. During my time there, I helped to save the company a liability of £1.6
million and was specifically handpicked to work on certain projects including process flow mapping
of other areas of the organisation, identifying risks and controls to combat them, and being selected
for secondment to Barclays in the Isle of Man for reconciliation project work.
In the past 15 years, I have done 2 roles, leaving on the grounds of redundancy due to circumstances
beyond my control. I would hope that the experience I have gained would lead to establishing a
relationship with this firm where I not only maintain but enhance the reputation of this organization
with the value of my work.
