Study of Social Engagement - Presentation
1. 1
A Study of Social
Engagement
Testing the Efficacy of Push Notifications as a Method to Increase
Attempted Post-Enrollment Utilization
August 2016
2. 2
Pacify is a nationwide, video-
enabled telemedicine platform
providing low-income moms with on-
demand access to nurses,
lactation consultants, and
dietitians through a mobile
application. Patients are able to engage
with providers, all at the top of their
fields, 24/7 at the push of a button.
Pacify, an Innovative Necessity
3. 3
Complication: User Utilization is at Risk
Our proposed intervention was to use
push notifications
as a form of social engagement.

Users Were Placed in Two Groups
Group B:
Experimental
Group A:
Control
Hypothesis: Users who receive push notifications as a form of social
engagement will have a higher attempted post-enrollment utilization when
compared to that of a control group, which receives no such engagement.
1The 12 push notifications are presented in Appendix A.

5. 5
Why Nevada WIC?
Nevada WIC moms are a relatively homogeneous
group, and represent an opportunity to select for a more consistent
study sample, allowing for better control of confounding variables.
Push Notification
Schedule
Push notifications were sent Mondays, Wednesdays,
and Friday. Tuesdays and Thursdays enrollments were adopted into
the MWF schedule after their first push on the day of enrollment.
Why push
notifications?
Push notifications are hypothesized to remind the
user about the app and its services, and to serve as an information
delivery platform.
Study Rationale and Details
What defines
a day?
A day is defined from 5:01 PM EST the previous day to 5:00 PM
EST. This note is important when assigning enrollments to a messaging
schedule.
