Celebrate and Protect uses a
child’s birthday card as a simple
evidence-based engagement tool
between GP practice and parent
as a call to action for childhood
immunisation to improve uptake.
The birthday card initiative has
been used on a small scale in
London but never at scale across
more than one borough. Celebrate
and Protect aims to roll out the
approach across the six Olympic
host boroughs and create an
evidence base for both large scale
implementation of the approach
and scalability of good practice
across multiple health and social
care geographies.
The purpose of the project:
•	Increase childhood
immunisation uptake,
especially MMR1 and MMR2
•	Increase attendance for 6 to
8wk check in primary care
•	Provide an independent
evaluation of the birthday
card methodology at a
population scale
•	Provide key learning for
scaling of best practice
interventions across
boundaries in London
The project was proposed as a
partnership intervention with
Sanofi Pasteur MSD, with external
academic evaluation with a view
to peer review publications of the
findings.

Homelessness is a prevalent problem, particularly with the
economic downturn. This is true, even in the borough of
Kingston which is seen to be affluent. Single people out of work
or on low income, if they are ineligible for help from the council,
find it extremely difficult to obtain affordable housing.
This project provides housing and welfare benefit advice, offers
a hostel placement service and endeavours to find the client
a space in a night shelter or hostel.

We welcome all gifts to Love Kingston – by pooling your
donations with others you’ll make an impact that goes way
beyond what you could do alone.
We have a selection of annual membership schemes
for individuals and companies to choose from. You may even
wish to set up a personal fund from which you make your own
grant recommendations.
To find out more about our membership schemes or set up
a standing order please contact us. Alternatively, if you wish
to make a one off gift, please send us your donation
and Gift Aid Form.
Note all cheques should be made out to The London
Community Foundation with a note stating Love Kingston.

Oxygen works at the heart of Kingston’s most challenging and
deprived communities – Cambridge Estate and Kingsnympton
– working to support young people and give them hope for
the future. Many live in difficult circumstances and often go
from one crisis to another.
This project will change lives, help them to discover their
potential, raise their aspirations and empower them to achieve
their ambitions.

There are several pockets of deprivation and debt levels above
the national average in Kingston upon Thames.
Hidden hunger is an issue where there is low income and no
financial safety net or savings. An unexpected bill or reduction
in income can push a family into crisis, unable to buy basic food.
This project works in partnership with front line agencies and care
providers. They offer help, advice and 3-4 days supply of food.

1 in 4 women experience at least one incident of domestic
violence during their lifetime. Women who flee often leave
everything behind including family, friends, possessions,
jobs and security. If they cannot find space in a refuge they
face a stark choice between homelessness and destitution,
or remaining with an abusive partner.
This project supports 3 refuges in Kingston, providing women
and children with a safe place to live during this stressful time.

Around 6 million people cannot access mainstream credit, often
due to having no credit history, or because of their work status.
Many have little choice but to pay extortionate interest from
loan sharks, leading to inescapable spirals of debt.
This project provides Kingston with a Credit Union – Kingston
Savers work in partnership with SurreySaves. They provide a safe
home for people’s savings, and offer flexible, affordable sources of
credit with no hidden charges or penalties for early repayment.

Our vision is of a strong and generous community – where residents,
businesses, community groups and government act collectively to create
a fair and good society for all who live or work in the borough. It is easy
to forget about the thousands of residents left on the margins.
Wealth and poverty live side by side, with middle
class terraces, green spaces and trendy high
streets blending into run-down estates and
empty playgrounds.

Bringing schools and parents together
equals academic and social success for
children which is why our successful parenting
seminars are endorsed by schools and
nurseries. Our seminars have been developed
in conjunction with teachers experienced
in early years learning, and draw on child
behaviour and developmental research.
what we do
We deliver a range of parenting tools to parents
within the familiar environment of the school
community. With the strategies learned during
the seminars, parents help children grow in
confidence and resilience, try new things,
persevere, and do well both academically and
socially. Parents learn how to support children
in academic, artistic and sporting endeavours
without pressurising them.
We also offer seminars for school and nursery
teachers. Teachers are dedicated, warm and
empathetic professionals. However, it can be
tiring stimulating a class, caring for children
and managing behaviour at the same time as
children absorb the learning tasks required
of them and learn to interact with others.
Teachers often find disciplining children
difficult. We deliver techniques that bring out
the best in children while ensuring discipline is
positive and effective.

Christine and Steve, parents

My husband and I
highly recommend the 10 week
parenting course.
The information and skills learnt were both
practical and useful and the changes we made
to our own behaviour remain with us to this day.
Money and time well spent - 20 hours
is a small price to pay for a lifetime of positive
parenting, bringing out the best
in your children.
Leo, father of two girls
When we first
signed-up for the course I was
curious but also concerned about giving
up what felt like so much of my time. In the
event it wasn’t a huge imposition on my time
and it was really worthwhile. We had specific
issues to tackle and within weeks we found
that things were turning round. After the
course I am pretty confident that I am a
better parent and that my kids are
happier too.
Your parenting tips still
steer our family ship. I don’t always
remember to respond the way I’d like
on reflection but It’s like finding a £10 pound
note at the bottom of your handbag... sometimes
finding just the right words to smooth through family
life. When my children were quite small I had a parent
practice top 10 tips printed out on the inside of our
pantry cupboard. I could then whip out some skills
with the cereal and be sure of a good day. I was
always amazed by the results! Happy
calm children. Bliss!

Meeting the Objectives
Throughout the year, GMG Briefing
Days are organised by members to
provide a platform for horticultural
companies, growers, societies,
manufacturers of tools, equipment
and products, to address members.
Briefing Days ensure that GMG
members are kept up to date with
latest developments in the industry,
as well as providing the opportunity
for the industry to hear the views
of the communicators.
A bi-monthly print newsletter,
GMG News, ensures that members are
in touch with each other about events,
Guild news, publishing and
broadcasting issues.
A Yearbook of members is printed
annually.
The much-prized GMG Awards are
bestowed annually for outstanding
writing, photography and broadcasting
in all media. They are announced and
presented at the Guild's fund-raising
Awards Lunch in December, a
prestigious event, which provides the
opportunity for the Guild to reward
excellence.
Publishing Days are organised to help
keep members in touch with relevant
publishing and broadcasting law,
business matters and new technology.
A mailing system has been established
whereby bona fide companies and
organisations can send relevant
information to members. Contact the
Garden Media Guild if you would like
further details of this mailing system.

Financing the Guild's Activities
If it is to fulfil its objectives, the Guild
must maintain its financial
independence.
Annual subscriptions are paid by
members and further funds are raised

  • 2. hello@royag.co.ukCyan Group – Create the Bird Character and Design and illustrations for NHS London Olympic Campaign 2012 Celebrate and Protect uses a child’s birthday card as a simple evidence-based engagement tool between GP practice and parent as a call to action for childhood immunisation to improve uptake. The birthday card initiative has been used on a small scale in London but never at scale across more than one borough. Celebrate and Protect aims to roll out the approach across the six Olympic host boroughs and create an evidence base for both large scale implementation of the approach and scalability of good practice across multiple health and social care geographies. The purpose of the project: • Increase childhood immunisation uptake, especially MMR1 and MMR2 • Increase attendance for 6 to 8wk check in primary care • Provide an independent evaluation of the birthday card methodology at a population scale • Provide key learning for scaling of best practice interventions across boundaries in London The project was proposed as a partnership intervention with Sanofi Pasteur MSD, with external academic evaluation with a view to peer review publications of the findings.

  • 4. hello@royag.co.uk Register your interest Homelessness is a prevalent problem, particularly with the economic downturn. This is true, even in the borough of Kingston which is seen to be affluent. Single people out of work or on low income, if they are ineligible for help from the council, find it extremely difficult to obtain affordable housing. This project provides housing and welfare benefit advice, offers a hostel placement service and endeavours to find the client a space in a night shelter or hostel. Learn more about this project at www.love-kingston.org.uk We welcome all gifts to Love Kingston – by pooling your donations with others you’ll make an impact that goes way beyond what you could do alone. We have a selection of annual membership schemes for individuals and companies to choose from. You may even wish to set up a personal fund from which you make your own grant recommendations. To find out more about our membership schemes or set up a standing order please contact us. Alternatively, if you wish to make a one off gift, please send us your donation and Gift Aid Form. Note all cheques should be made out to The London Community Foundation with a note stating Love Kingston. ‘Oxygen is like a family where the staff accept you for who you are and do their best to help you through the tough times, but push you to be a better person ’Oxygen beneficiary ‘I never thought I would be in this situation. Without the help of the Foodbank I don’t know what I would have done ’Kingston Foodbank beneficiary Oxygen works at the heart of Kingston’s most challenging and deprived communities – Cambridge Estate and Kingsnympton – working to support young people and give them hope for the future. Many live in difficult circumstances and often go from one crisis to another. This project will change lives, help them to discover their potential, raise their aspirations and empower them to achieve their ambitions. Learn more about this project at www.love-kingston.org.uk There are several pockets of deprivation and debt levels above the national average in Kingston upon Thames. Hidden hunger is an issue where there is low income and no financial safety net or savings. An unexpected bill or reduction in income can push a family into crisis, unable to buy basic food. This project works in partnership with front line agencies and care providers. They offer help, advice and 3-4 days supply of food. Learn more about this project at www.love-kingston.org.uk ‘Being in an abusive relationship was like being in a cocoon, and thanks to Hestia I have now come out of the relationship and blossomed ’Hestia beneficiary ‘Without the invaluable help and support of KCAH when I found myself homeless, I do not know what would have happened to me. I am now living independently. Thank you ’KCAH beneficiary ‘It feels great to no longer be burdened by the payday loans. I only wish I knew about Credit Unions a few years ago. I could have saved myself thousands ’SurreySaves beneficiary 1 in 4 women experience at least one incident of domestic violence during their lifetime. Women who flee often leave everything behind including family, friends, possessions, jobs and security. If they cannot find space in a refuge they face a stark choice between homelessness and destitution, or remaining with an abusive partner. This project supports 3 refuges in Kingston, providing women and children with a safe place to live during this stressful time. Learn more about this project at www.love-kingston.org.uk Around 6 million people cannot access mainstream credit, often due to having no credit history, or because of their work status. Many have little choice but to pay extortionate interest from loan sharks, leading to inescapable spirals of debt. This project provides Kingston with a Credit Union – Kingston Savers work in partnership with SurreySaves. They provide a safe home for people’s savings, and offer flexible, affordable sources of credit with no hidden charges or penalties for early repayment. • 6. hello@royag.co.uk 7 Bringing schools and parents together equals academic and social success for children which is why our successful parenting seminars are endorsed by schools and nurseries. Our seminars have been developed in conjunction with teachers experienced in early years learning, and draw on child behaviour and developmental research. what we do We deliver a range of parenting tools to parents within the familiar environment of the school community. With the strategies learned during the seminars, parents help children grow in confidence and resilience, try new things, persevere, and do well both academically and socially. Parents learn how to support children in academic, artistic and sporting endeavours without pressurising them. We also offer seminars for school and nursery teachers. Teachers are dedicated, warm and empathetic professionals. However, it can be tiring stimulating a class, caring for children and managing behaviour at the same time as children absorb the learning tasks required of them and learn to interact with others. Teachers often find disciplining children difficult. We deliver techniques that bring out the best in children while ensuring discipline is positive and effective. who attends any mum or dad, with children in school or nursery, including parents of children with special needs teachers who are parents themselves teaching staff and assistants interested in developing further skills in the classroom results for schools shows commitment to teaching staff, parents and children improves children’s communication, co-operation, respect and social skills increases children’s focus, motivation and openness to learning effective problem solving and teaching approaches to discipline results for teachers understanding temperament and stages of development in children additional techniques to motivate and engage children effective ways of re-directing and responding to challenging behaviour results for parents and children normalises parenting issues so that it does not feel like “I am the only one with these challenges” and increases sense of competence and well-being as a parent lessens guilt, tiredness and stress enables parents to bring out the best in children at school and creates transformation at home with happier, healthier and more confident children strengthens parent networks Christine and Steve, parents of a son and daughter My husband and I highly recommend the 10 week parenting course. The information and skills learnt were both practical and useful and the changes we made to our own behaviour remain with us to this day. Money and time well spent - 20 hours is a small price to pay for a lifetime of positive parenting, bringing out the best in your children. Leo, father of two girls When we first signed-up for the course I was curious but also concerned about giving up what felt like so much of my time. In the event it wasn’t a huge imposition on my time and it was really worthwhile. We had specific issues to tackle and within weeks we found that things were turning round. After the course I am pretty confident that I am a better parent and that my kids are happier too. Your parenting tips still steer our family ship. I don’t always remember to respond the way I’d like on reflection but It’s like finding a £10 pound note at the bottom of your handbag... sometimes finding just the right words to smooth through family life. When my children were quite small I had a parent practice top 10 tips printed out on the inside of our pantry cupboard. I could then whip out some skills with the cereal and be sure of a good day. I was always amazed by the results! Happy calm children. Bliss!
