CHICAGO—ShawChicago continues its 2016/17 season, Dysfunctional Family Fun, with
Margaret Raether’s adaptation of P.G. Wodehouse’s British comedy, Jeeves Intervenes. The
production runs November 26 through December 19 at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts,
1016 N. Dearborn Street, Chicago, IL 60610.
Poor little rich boy Bertram ‘Bertie’ Wooster is in a panic: his imperial aunt, Agatha Spencer-
Gregson, is in town. The iron lady has arranged his marriage with the perfect woman, the
Honourable Gertrude Winklesworth-Bode. Gertrude loves philosophy. Bertie is a party animal.
Aunt Agatha loves having her way. Gertrude is so perfect and lovely and refined that Aunt
Agatha intends to cancel Bertie’s trip to the French Riviera and drag him to the family reunion
with his newfound ‘darling.’ That is, after Gertrude thoroughly housetrains him. Horrified at
losing his bachelorhood, Bertie wants to make a run for it
It’s all up to Jeeves, Bertie’s genius manservant, to save the day.
You Never Can Tell Press Release
CHICAGO– ShawChicago’s 2015/16 season concludes with George Bernard Shaw’s “comedy
for comedy’s sake,” You Never Can Tell. This British classic follows three children’s search for
their father, and their mother, a women’s rights advocate, who keeps them from finding him. You
Never Can Tell runs from March 5th through March 28th at the Ruth Page Center for the
Arts, 1016 N. Dearborn Street, Chicago, IL 60610.
It’s 1896, and the British suffrage movement is steadily gaining steam. Dolly, Philip and Gloria
arrive with their mother, Mrs. Clandon, famed advocate and author of books on modern gender
roles, propriety and behavior. However, upon reaching English soil, the three siblings press their
mother to reveal their father’s identity. Little do they know that they have already met him: a
crotchety Fergus Crampton; and his tenant, a misogynistic, five-shilling dentist named Valentine.
To make matters worse for the separated pair, their children have unwittingly invited them all to
lunch. Amidst the impending fiasco, Valentine declares his love for Gloria. In his dogged
pursuit, both are pitched into a heated debate about women’s rights to education, owning
property, a job, and marriage.

ShawChicago’s 2015/16 season continues with Noël Coward’s Private Lives, a comedy that
follows four people and their passion for loving, quarreling and loving again. Barbara Zahora’s
ShawChicago directorial debut.
2. Amanda and Elyot are happily divorced, each on their second marriage. They honeymoon at the
same French hotel...where they meet each other. Love is unwittingly reignited, and they elope.
Their spouses, Victor and Sibyl, pursue; and all four discover that true love isn’t so traditional
after all.
