3. #1. It’s all about numbers
Statistics and mathematics go hand in hand. In today’s
time, when most companies are driven by data science,
statistical skills are vital. You should be aware of statistical
concepts and terminology and be good with calculations,
which would require the basic knowledge of multivariable
calculus or linear algebra.

4. #2. Programming skills
To land your dream job as a data scientist, you must
possess exceptionally good coding skills to be able to write,
analyse and understand a code at any given time. Exposure
and excellency in various programming languages is vital.
While Python is the most preferred and common language
used by data scientists, many use R as well. More than 40
percent of data scientists are using R to solve statistical
problems!

Unstructured data is referred to an the unspecified data which
does not fit into database tables, for instance, videos, post,
blogs, audios, customer reviews, etc. As a data scientist it is
important to be able to study and categorise the unstructured
data, and this is where you. Must emphasise on the knowledge
of software like Apache Hadoop, Microsoft HDI insight,
NoSQL, Polybase, etc.

7. #5. Art of storytelling
Every piece of data is a piece of a story waiting to be
unravelled. Hence, as a data scientist you should be able to
read and express the data in a way it can be understood by
the organisation management. You must be able to visualise
raw data with the help of data visualization tools like ggplot,
d3.js, matplotlib and Tableau.

8. #6. Academics matter
Educational qualifications play an important role in becoming a data
scientist. Organisations mostly prefer candidates with masters in
fields of statistics, mathematics, computer science, and physical
science. Organisations which are research-oriented and trying to
develop advanced models in data science, PhDs in fields like applied
mathematics, statistics, computer science, and Astro science are
mostly preferred.
