1. A literal breath of fresh air for tourists looking to take a
break from the scorching tropical north, Patagonia offers
a taste of a very different side of South America; nowhere
more so than the Parque Nacional Los Glaciares, a natural
splendour which promises an experience unique to
South America.
At the park, sparsity and abundance clash; where the
glacial tundra meets sub-Antarctic forest, visitors are stuck
by an acute sense of isolation amidst a barren landscape
– and are yet met by an enormous variety of luscious flora
and fauna. Located near the Chilean border and divided
geographically into two sections, the park is accessible by
the gateway towns of El Chaltén (northern section) and
El Calafate (to the south), each conjuring the promise of
adventure. Diversity abounds in the Patagonian Glaciers;
warm breezy days give way to cool nights, whilst daylight
hours range from eight in July (the heart of Argentinean
winter) to as much as 16 in December, promising the
prospect of limitless adventure.
The wild, virgin lands in the north are open to excursion,
whilst conversely luxury cruisers in the south allow tourists
to take in the surrounding panorama from the height of
opulence. The north boasts hiking and mountain climbing
that encompass the Fitz Roy mountain range, whilst the
southholdsthepark’sindisputablekeystone;themammoth
Perito Moreno glacier. One of only three in Argentina
still growing today, the glacier is a true natural wonder, a
glimpse of which undoubtedly provides the highlight of a
trip to the Park Nacional Los Glaciares.
